#66279 Why don't Zambees...

Posted by veL on 12 March 2014 - 05:36 PM in Fantasy

The reason is quite obvious. Once you get zambeewiified, you're considered a part of a big, happy family in which everyone is equal and doesn't concern himself with things as silly as power or money. You don't eat your family. That would be creepy. Instead you want more and more people to become part of your awesome and equal family, and so you begin to spread the love by hugging other still non-zambeewified humanees, shower them with lots of lovely red kisses until they like you so much that they decide to join you in your glorious adventure to make the world a better place.

I, for one, welcome our Zambees overlords philantropists.

#61350 which of the the big three is your favorite

Posted by veL on 05 January 2014 - 07:57 PM in Anime

Naruto and Bleach were both really cool in their first chapters back when I was 14. Now? They'd have to pay me to watch it. Honestly, Bleach went full 'blood = saliva', with animation becoming increasingly worse as the show got more popular. Meanwhile Naruto died with Shippuuden as they started overusing cheap CGI and ruining every single encounter from Manga (which was interesting at that point) and the story is chasing it's own tail.

Honestly, if you like either just read Manga, the plot is just as bad, but atleast you don't have to worry about gigantic quality drops. But then again, why waste the time when there are hundreds of great series, including those from decade ago that beat 'the big shounen trio' in every aspect.

Has to be Deadpool.

If it weren't just for his silly humour and being the most interesting mercenary for hire, he also breaks the damn fourth wall.

#67698 What is your favourite anime when you are a kid?

Posted by veL on 30 March 2014 - 05:33 AM in Anime

I was practically obsessed over Sailor Moon, Pokemon, and Digimon.

Same, but also Saint Seiya (I made armor out of paper, my family was close to sending me to a specialist), Dragon Ball and Slayers.

Though I must say, even now when I watch the ending of Digimon first season I get teary-eyed. The nostalgia ... It was much a better show for me than Pokemon, more grown-up and exciting. Maytbe because it actually felt like Anime not a cartoon for kids.

#66405 What is the Best Anime You Have Ever Seen and Ones That I Should Avoid?

Posted by veL on 14 March 2014 - 01:48 PM in Anime

Code Geass. It starts as mildly interesting and ends up being a great action Anime with lots of twists, unorthodox characters and exciting events. If you liked Death Note (of course you did), it's similar, just with futuristic twist (mechas) and more actual combat action. Though instead of getting progressively worse, Code Geass gets even more awesome in the second season.

Avoid: Anything that has slice of life/romance/ecchi etc. in genres unless someone recommends it to you, these tend to be very stereotypical snoozefests.

#64165 what are some good nerd songs to listen to ?

Posted by veL on 09 February 2014 - 06:40 AM in Misc. Movies and T.V.

Nice! I had no idea they released another video, that was pretty hillarious. Even considering my escalating hate for Felicia Day's 'Look how nerdy I am!' attitude.

I'm having a bad time looking for music to listen to lately, but if you enjoy fantasy/epic soundtracks, check out Future World Music, I have no idea how I missed this for so long. All these D&D sessions would be so much more epic.

#61492 The Walking Dead (and related zombology)

Posted by veL on 06 January 2014 - 08:29 AM in Fantasy

Ignoring the whole 'Telltale doesn't care' part, I find their Walking Dead franchise really refreshing. It's truly a fun way of storytelling. It could use more interactions and decisions, but otherwise it does a great job with the plot and staying true to the feeling of Comic Book.

That's why I trust Game of Thrones game can be great, as it's a serie focused way more about plot and survival in a cruel world than anything else.

#61930 The Walking Dead (and related zombology)

Posted by veL on 11 January 2014 - 04:09 AM in Fantasy

I've been planning on giving it a watch for a good while now.

EDIT: Also, 61000th post on nerd forum, ever.

The problem with The Walking Dead is that the team behind it is pretty average. They got GREAT plot to work with from the Comic Book, started really well too in season 1, but soon after that things got far worse. It just shows that the directors can make the show interesting, but sometimes they just completely miss the mark which results in complete snooze fests. Inexperience I'd say. The show is a long spiral of good and bad episodes. As long as they stick to main plot of the comic they are ok, but to be honest they went around changing too much stuff which caused lots of inconsistences and resulted in a boring experience for most part.

It's still worth a watch, especially when you don't have a habit for picking out mistakes and just go casual about it. Just don't expect too much, the show has such great scores only because it's a. The only Zombie show on television b. The main plot that originates from the comic is great c. It's like a mix of gore and soap opera, so something for everyone!

I think I'm pretty safe. I'll just leave some poisoned instant noodles around here and throw a homo magazine just to be double safe.

I'd much prefer Crash, ah the better years of my PS1ing!

#62344 Star Trek or Star Wars?

Posted by veL on 14 January 2014 - 07:09 AM in Sci Fi

I'd pick Star Wars simply because the universe in it is magnificent. Ignoring the bad movie plot etc., the world itself is just so interesting. From Republic Commandos, Mandalorians and Bounty Hunters to Jedi/Sith, there are so many intriguing characters and jobs in this universe. Hence all the successful games (KOTOR, Jedi Knight 2, Republic Commando), as it's a really great feeling for a sci-fi fan to be immersed in that kind of world. And there's just so much potential for more cool stuff to come out of this. But I'm pretty much ignoring the canon in here, I'm not the biggest fan of the movies.

#65833 Sitcoms from Yesteryear

Full House and Courage the Cowardly Dog were my favourites back in the day, especially the latter. It gave me a legitimate reason to fake all kinds of sicknesses during my school years for that little dose of wicked, imaginative black comedy.

#61385 Scares the Shit Out of You!

Posted by veL on 05 January 2014 - 08:37 PM in Misc. Movies and T.V.

If you want a game: Outlast, next to Amnesia the game that scared me the most.

If you want a movie, depending on which scares you more: Demons (First "Paranormal Activity", "Emily Rose"), Ghosts ("Shutter"), the Unknown ("Sinister")

Easy get scared recipe: Any of the above while being alone in a room with lights off.

#67697 PS VITA THREAD

Posted by veL on 30 March 2014 - 05:13 AM in Video Games

3DS is obviously better, but what makes PSVita a good choice is PSN+. If you are a subscriber paying like 50 euro every year, you have a great free game collection on PS3, PSP and PS Vita. Of the three I only have PS3 and pirated PSP, but it's still a steal for that money. As long as I'm subscribed I have Dragon's Dogma, Uncharted 3, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2, A tale of brothers, and many many others, these are just from the last few months. Plus of course just as many Vita games that keep itching me, because I don't have PSVita.

As for the MP3/Browsing internet thingy, isn't like every smartphone good enough for that anyway? I wouldn't bother on handheld console.

Hi,

It's killing me, where was this little fella on your avatar from?!

My first thought was Mushishi for some reason but I think it's from a movie, Spirited Away maybe? Darn I can't remember!

#61879 New Animes

Posted by veL on 10 January 2014 - 03:24 PM in Anime

Yes. I'm trying to watch the .hack// Trilogy.

It's relatively complex and difficult to grasp the gist of the story.

It's visually spectacular nonetheless :)

If you have a working PS2 don't do it! .Hack//G.U which is a 3 part game with the same plot as the Trilogy movie, and while the gameplay is fun in itself, revealing the plot step by step makes it all that better. So if you have that choice, just play the game.

#61928 New Animes

Posted by veL on 11 January 2014 - 03:53 AM in Anime

Don't bother. I give a speech close to this at the end of every season. SoA is the new flavor, it appeals to the highest amount of teenagers so it gets the most chatter. And no one around here watches Kill la Kill, and I hate them for it. Nudity is power! Sexy is strength! Fanservice fuels that shit.

Seth, have you watched Full Metal Brotherhood like Kitty suggested? Because that is 100% what you would enjoy. The dub is great and the action is cool. Also, there's anime going on right now that you'd enjoy. Mahou Sensou and Noragami are right up your alley. Sub'd though.

You all should be watching Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! It fucking runs on Moe. Vanishment this world!

You know, I skip 95% of fanservice/ecchi based Anime (as they all go down to the same level of repeatiness), but in KLK it's so much better when the MC is very self-aware about that nudity and there's a proper reason for her to accept it. Also all the damn parody, comedy and out of space action scenes! Yumm. Reminds me of Gurren Lagann, just without mechas and on steroids.

#61874 New Animes

Posted by veL on 10 January 2014 - 03:12 PM in Anime

Not to cause Anime World War 2, but neither SAO nor Accel World could be considered a 'very good' Anime, unless there are atleast 3-4 levels of anime quality above it, then I guess it could be called something like that.

Also how can people watch dubbing over subtitles for any reason. I mean even if it IS a very good dubbing, it still can't translate all the plays on words and just doesn't feel the same. Unless of course it's 'American anime' that was made like that from the beginning then I guess you aren't missing anything (Good ol' Avatar the Last Airbender)

Sorry about being whiny, it's just my little rebellion against all these hypetrains and stereotypes that make little sense to me. Anyway, I think what you're looking for is an action-packed shounen, preferrably with RPG/gaming roots. Frankly there isn't any new Anime that would fit this description and be very good though. Did you try Kill la Kill? Or maybe sports Anime? Back in the day I was super anti because of all the IRL hate for sports, but in Anime it's pretty damn exciting. Kuroko no Basket is a popular choice right now, but I still find Hajime no Ippo the best currently-airing shounen, easily. There's also Hunter x Hunter but it's not exactly new, but still on-going and not sports-based.

So I just have one question: what sparked Anime World War 1? :P

Oh I did, that one day when I said I hate NGE for being a senseless piece of crap. Before I knew it there was US and Japanese army at my front door. More information is confidential.

Also, not being able to wear it around polite company is how you know it was a good costume.

Exactly! Why does everyone think that dressing as a Black Hitler is wrong?!
