Just because a band doesn't get the attention it deserves doesn't always mean it is an indie one.
A few bands that I hadn't heard of for a very long time then suddenly had them thrust in to my life are as follows:
Uriah Heep
Rainbow
The Heavy
That is all I can think of off the top of my head.
It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

Know whatcha mean, I was just expecting to see a lot of indie bands show up after using the word "underrated". It doesn't really have a definition hear on the internets.
