#68534 Dark Souls II

Posted by veL on 09 April 2014 - 03:24 PM in Video Games

My first character was the knight (I think? The one who starts without a shield) and it wasn't too bad. I spend the majority of my time dodging anyway, and the lack of a shield means I have less weight.

I haven't played in a while now. I got the Elite Knight Armour and ended up stopping in uh. Dead Man or something. I forget. I didn't boost my stats much so dodge-rolls are now half-assed frontflips, I love it

As much as I love quick-roll build, it's pretty suicidal on first playthrough, when you don't know when and what is going to attack. Any tight passages or bosses whose attacks you can't simply dodge are giving me hell.

But I guess that's part of the proper Dark Souls experience! The harder it gets, the more satisfaction you gain.

We had someone trade it in like 2 days after it was released cause he "died too much"....I think he missed the point of the game...

Also, I loved this https://www.youtube....h?v=gqzsI8jmwTs

Haha thanks for showing me this, hillarious.

130 deaths so far! Wooooo! (I just had to act all pro and play without shield ..)

#67828 Firefly

Posted by veL on 01 April 2014 - 11:21 AM in Sci Fi

Too bad the show didn't.

Mixed feelings there. It had no time to spoil like most shows. It died in its innocence when it was at its peak. Though part of me still believes it could've been epic and perfect to the bitter end, and so it's a shame.

I also don't fully approve of Joss Whedon's career choice. He used to make these underground TV shows with solid and truly splendid fanbases. Now he went for the mainstream, focusing on the pure hollywood of Superhero movies. Sure, he created one of the best superhero movies of the decade, but it's a total waste of his writing abilities. Sure, the comedy was top notch and the CGI of the Avengers was just over and beyond, but the story felt really poor and limited.

That makes me a bit relieved that Firefly's gone. I wouldn't want it to become more suited for a bigger audience, it was great just the way it was.

#67698 What is your favourite anime when you are a kid?

Posted by veL on 30 March 2014 - 05:33 AM in Anime

I was practically obsessed over Sailor Moon, Pokemon, and Digimon.

Same, but also Saint Seiya (I made armor out of paper, my family was close to sending me to a specialist), Dragon Ball and Slayers.

Though I must say, even now when I watch the ending of Digimon first season I get teary-eyed. The nostalgia ... It was much a better show for me than Pokemon, more grown-up and exciting. Maytbe because it actually felt like Anime not a cartoon for kids.

#67697 PS VITA THREAD

Posted by veL on 30 March 2014 - 05:13 AM in Video Games

3DS is obviously better, but what makes PSVita a good choice is PSN+. If you are a subscriber paying like 50 euro every year, you have a great free game collection on PS3, PSP and PS Vita. Of the three I only have PS3 and pirated PSP, but it's still a steal for that money. As long as I'm subscribed I have Dragon's Dogma, Uncharted 3, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2, A tale of brothers, and many many others, these are just from the last few months. Plus of course just as many Vita games that keep itching me, because I don't have PSVita.

As for the MP3/Browsing internet thingy, isn't like every smartphone good enough for that anyway? I wouldn't bother on handheld console.

Has to be Deadpool.

If it weren't just for his silly humour and being the most interesting mercenary for hire, he also breaks the damn fourth wall.

Posted by veL on 24 March 2014 - 04:00 PM in Video Games

Well, DoTa is the kind of game that you're going to get seriously addicted to if you have patience to learn the basics. Of course it was easier before when there weren't 107 heroes in the pool, but luckily enough most AP games stick to some 50 popular choices.

Consider playing heroes like Lich, Tidehunter, Abaddon, Bounty Hunter, Zeus, Warlock, Witch Doctor, Treant, because they're all easy and are semi/full support heroes that just need to hit a chain of abilities in teamfight and occasionaly buy wards/couriers etc. to do a decent enough job. Pay attention to enemy heroes, click on them when you're dead to read their abilities, once you figure out the basic mechanics you'll quickly notice that it's just '200 dmg + slow' or '150 dmg + stun/dot' for most part. Learning everything properly takes many, many matches but once you see how much you've improved over the days you'll be hooked. And hopefully not by a russian pudge.

#66862 Dark Souls II

Posted by veL on 20 March 2014 - 03:18 PM in Video Games

Start with Demon's Souls, it's easier to figure out where to go next as you have areas you travel to rather than open world. I think there's also less items and bosses so there's that. It should prepare you enough so that you don't run around in Dark Souls like a clueless headless chicken. Instead you'll be running around like a cautious headless chicken.

#66860 Game of Thrones

Posted by veL on 20 March 2014 - 02:56 PM in Fantasy

I recently just finished all the books as well, and Yes I am thrilled for the new season on TV but I really want the next book.... sooooooooo badly..... like neeeedddd

Yeah. There isn't even one MC plotline that I'm not interested in. Everything is prepared for a total meltdown (heh). Not only will we most likely get (LATE SPOILERS/THEORIES, DON'T HOVER UNLESS YOU'RE UP TO DATE WITH BOOKS) Cleganebowl, R+L=J proof, Stannis will battle Boltons (and one of them most likely stab the other in the back), Daenerys will finally do what was expected of her two books ago, half-zombie Jon, Bran most likely warging into Crows and Direwolve sto help Starks, Sansa becoming a serious player, Arya running off to start her assassination plot, Varys taking serious steps to make King's Landing prepared for Aegon, who by the way might just be a Blackfyre (run Tommen!), Jaime just might kill Cersei out of pity, Tyrion being Tyrion and probably meeting Daenerys, Victarion stealing one of the dragons using the horn and getting betrayed by his brother. Plus we'll most likely get more Melisandre chapters. Seven gods, this is gonna be AMAZING.  (/Spoilers)

#66751 Dark Souls II

Posted by veL on 19 March 2014 - 01:13 PM in Video Games

Haven't played the second game yet, getting it on Friday. Played the first to death, and I will go on record saying this.

Dark Souls isn't a hard game. Demons Souls was harder, and even that wasn't too bad.

I think Demon's Souls had harder Bosses/Enemies, meanwhile Dark Souls I/II had more treacherous areas. It's not even the enemies killing me most of the time, it's the goddamn holes in the ground, narrow passages and wild rolling stones. Ah Sen's fortress ..

#66405 What is the Best Anime You Have Ever Seen and Ones That I Should Avoid?

Posted by veL on 14 March 2014 - 01:48 PM in Anime

Code Geass. It starts as mildly interesting and ends up being a great action Anime with lots of twists, unorthodox characters and exciting events. If you liked Death Note (of course you did), it's similar, just with futuristic twist (mechas) and more actual combat action. Though instead of getting progressively worse, Code Geass gets even more awesome in the second season.

Avoid: Anything that has slice of life/romance/ecchi etc. in genres unless someone recommends it to you, these tend to be very stereotypical snoozefests.

Well, as a fellow Anime fan, I must say that all these subtle yuri'stic scenes are wonderful. *nosebleed*

Ah Lucky Star ...

So yeah Akiyo, don't fight it

#66279 Why don't Zambees...

Posted by veL on 12 March 2014 - 05:36 PM in Fantasy

The reason is quite obvious. Once you get zambeewiified, you're considered a part of a big, happy family in which everyone is equal and doesn't concern himself with things as silly as power or money. You don't eat your family. That would be creepy. Instead you want more and more people to become part of your awesome and equal family, and so you begin to spread the love by hugging other still non-zambeewified humanees, shower them with lots of lovely red kisses until they like you so much that they decide to join you in your glorious adventure to make the world a better place.

I, for one, welcome our Zambees overlords philantropists.

#66275 Hi~!

Posted by veL on 12 March 2014 - 05:24 PM in Introductions

Welcome!

Norway huh? I'm learning Norsk as I plan to leave my country one day and Norway just seems like a great place. Though lately it's starting to seem that lots of people plan to invade you. I shall visit all the Fjords, hunt all the Trolls and impregnate all the women. In that specific order. Then I will probably laugh about Norsk being a funny language for the rest of my life meanwhile wrestling wild bears. Or wait ... was it Russia? .. Uh .. I'll wrestle penguins. Yeah.

Don't forget a fuck load of incest, paedophilia and female worthlessness!

Let's be honest, the Kharl Drogo - Khalisi relationship was something out of Martin's wet dreams.

The way he described all these incest scenes and what-not make me think that he has quite a few of these.

#66065 Help to re-kindle my Anime past!

Posted by veL on 11 March 2014 - 04:46 PM in Anime

If you're aiming for nostalgia kind of feeling: Slayers is the way to go. It has everything that older fantasy Anime had; ribboned with great comedy and amazing characters. I also think it was the first Anime in my memory other than Dragon Ball that had villains who weren't completely dull/evil. Just avoid english dubbings, the japanese voice acting and singing is what makes it so great. Speaking of Dragon Ball, if you've been a fan of it as a child, Dragon Ball Kai is way to go! It's basically Dragon Ball Z shortened and remastered. It has worse openings/endings and too much of a plastic feeling to it, but is a great way to rekindle that love for Anime now when you don't have unlimited time to go through whole Dragon Ball again.

When we  talk about modern Anime, Shingeki no Kyojin is quickly becoming legendary. It has a very intriguing plot that makes a lot of sense (which is hard to find in Anime), a very interesting world where humankind is at a brink of extinction, and it's animation and music are top notch. Definitely great if you feel like nothing's good enough and you want to see how great and grown-up Anime can be.

As a fellow Fantasy fan, I don't think there ever was a better Anime from that genre than Seirei no Moribito. I had to attempt it twice, because first episode was somehow unconvincing. But once I tried again and got further, I fell in love. The setting is just so beautiful, the story draws you and doesn't let go, it makes lots of sense and the fights are enjoyable, as they present true, old Japanese swordmanship. If you liked Princess Mononoke, this is basically the exact kind of world setting and either of the two stories could fit in the other. It's a hidden gem, and it's a shame that so few Anime fans know of its existence.

So yeah, these two are my most recent favourites and I whole-heartedly reocmmend them.

A Song of Ice and Fire ... the most genious, complex and tension-holding piece of writing set in medieval fantasy world ever. TV Show doesn't do its justice, they had to cut off half the content so people wouldn't get lost in it. And guess what, 80% still do.

#65833 Sitcoms from Yesteryear

Posted by veL on 09 March 2014 - 01:08 PM in Misc. Movies and T.V.

Full House and Courage the Cowardly Dog were my favourites back in the day, especially the latter. It gave me a legitimate reason to fake all kinds of sicknesses during my school years for that little dose of wicked, imaginative black comedy.

#65826 Future Diary

Posted by veL on 09 March 2014 - 12:25 PM in Anime

Yeah, Kill la Kill is definitely this season's guilty pleasure .. It would be OK if they stuck to the Comedy genre, but instead it goes a pretty obvious shounen-route. But hey, music, animation and characters are great so who cares, right?

.. I criticize these kind of Anime but still watch them because there isn't much else .. q_q

#65733 Future Diary

Posted by veL on 08 March 2014 - 05:12 AM in Anime

I watched a couple episodes. I wasn't a fan. It was just a bunch of fanservice and explosions, Yuno what I mean?

IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE YUNO IS A CHARACTER IN THE SHOW!

Ha

Ha-

But seriously guys, I mean, that's all it is and I need more than that to like a show.

Completely agree. It had much potential, but was soon ruined by forced plot twists, unconvincing drama, horrible main character and plot that made little sense.
(The whole subplot about his father, oh god)

But that's what always happens, if Anime has a cute-looking female lead (or just lots of boobs action) and really good animation with lots of blood and gore, it instantly jumps on the hypetrain and becomes 'MUST-WATCH!' even if the plot has more holes than Yuki after direct contact with my machine gun. See for reference: Steins;gate, Angel Beats, Highschool of the Dead. It's all simple excitement that tries to dull your senses for the horribly written plot.
