#414 LARP: Looks stupid, feels awesome.

Posted by Aresem on 16 January 2012 - 01:21 AM in Fantasy

I don't even bother with the armor, that crap is expensive. I did spring for a foam latex short sword though, and it was fun as hell until I accidentally left it in the sun and it melted xD

That's why I can't have nice things T-T

#410 LARP: Looks stupid, feels awesome.

Posted by Aresem on 16 January 2012 - 01:02 AM in Fantasy

I'm sure by now most people are familiar with LARP, if not just google it.

Anyway, here's where I stand: If the focus is primarily on combat, not so much on the actual roleplaying, it's fun as all hell.

Seriously, everybody wants to engage in melee combat. Don't lie to yourself. Ever since you first saw an axe and a sword in the same place, you wanted to have a bladefight.

And I mean, hell, you can even make/buy bows for that crap, with padded arrows. THIS IS THE LOGICAL NEXT STEP IN NERF, PEOPLE.

...WHY DO NONE OF MY FRIENDS WANT TO DO THIS

#409 What is your favorite setting?

Posted by Aresem on 16 January 2012 - 12:56 AM in Fantasy

I still haven't gotten around to reading the Dresden Files, and I watched one or two episodes of the show before deciding I really ought to read the books.

DON'T YOU EVER WATCH THAT SHOW AGAIN, FORGET IT AND FORGET EVERYTHING ABOUT IT.

SURGICALLY REMOVE THAT PORTION OF YOUR BRAIN BEFORE CONTINUING TO THE BOOKS. Then enjoy :)

#407 Warehouse 13

Posted by Aresem on 15 January 2012 - 11:53 PM in Sci Fi

I'm so into this show. My favorite thing is that even though it's a "syfy" original series, you can only tell it is like 10% of the time! That's at least 90% less often than most of their other shows!

Also, it apparently takes place in the same universe as Eureka, considering the crossovers... so that leads me to believe that they're trying to build up a sort of ongoing universe kinda like the comics do. I could go for that, if they keep hiring people that can do their jobs as actors and writers.

If you haven't checked it out yet, fire up the ol' netflix. Or do whatever people without Netflix do, I don't even remember.

#406 I'm thinking about buying a console.

Posted by Aresem on 15 January 2012 - 11:49 PM in Video Games

Frankly, I'm not too much in to console gaming. But I have a 360, it's my favorite of this generation of consoles. I use it to get my Rocksmith on and play Call of Duty every so often.

Steam over anything.

#405 I'm going to be buying my first solid state drive tomorrow

Posted by Aresem on 15 January 2012 - 11:45 PM in Hardware

I almost got a SSD for my gaming PC, but I wanted the extra space for less money.

I forgot that every HDD I buy breaks within a month. I really wish I just sprung for the SSD, I can't play any of the high end games that I specifically payed $2000 for a computer to play.

Not sure what to do, because as usual, the disk check utility doesn't notice a problem even though the thing clicks like an old rotary phone every time I run Batman. Either I'm unlucky or really magnetic because this always freaking happens.

#404 New arcade system

I'm gonna kick that game's ass so hard they need to invent new numbers for my high score.

#403 The famous "Island" question...

Posted by Aresem on 15 January 2012 - 11:30 PM in Everything Else

This is a famous question? How arbitrary, you're stranded on an island! You need to build a shelter out of blocks to keep out the zombies!

Also I guess Jethro Tull's Original Masters. That or... no, that AND everything else I want, why would I only have one album with all the memory this thing has?

#401 Miniature Cannon

Posted by Aresem on 15 January 2012 - 11:25 PM in DIY

What is that you're shooting out of it?

#399 New arcade system

Posted by Aresem on 15 January 2012 - 11:22 PM in Announcements

Is it just me, or does our Donkey Kong seem slower than the real thing? Maybe I'm just crazy.

Anyway, we need Galaga! With a capital "NEEEED"

#398 Dice and dice systems

I've never heard of Echo Bazaar until now, but it sounds interesting. You should post what you've come up with somewhere so we can check it out.

#396 LoL: You know it beats DotA

Posted by Aresem on 15 January 2012 - 10:56 PM in Video Games

Seriously, nobody?

._.

#395 Magic the gathering: Mirrodin Disappoints and innistrad interests me

Posted by Aresem on 15 January 2012 - 10:53 PM in Tabletop Games

You just now getting back into standard or something?

I freaking love Innistrad. I play on MTGO, I've got a really nice all white/green human deck. It wins tournaments, but it's still missing a few key cards that would just blow it right the fuck up.

Champion of the Parish is the best opener in the world. If you get your land, a champion, and 2 Mayor of Avabruck in your first hand you win. Then Angelic Overseer pops up sooner or later and destroys the world.

I've never lost with a starting hand like that.

#61 LoL: You know it beats DotA

Posted by Aresem on 08 January 2012 - 09:59 PM in Video Games

I mean, I don't because I've never played DotA, but surely YOU do.

So if you have played, who are your top 3 champs and why?

If not, what's your excuse at this point, really? Srsly now folks.

3. Yorick

The one man team. Yorick's ghosts give him just enough range to hold back the enemy push while keeping his ass alive early game. Later game, Atmog's combined with his passive ability makes him (and his ghosts) a serious force to be reckoned with.

2. Gangplank

The one man team. GP's oranges keep his ass alive early game. Later game, Atmog's combined with his crit runes make him(and his oranges) a serious force to be reckoned with.

3. Fizz

The one man team. He has a shark.

#51 Is the PC Games section broken?

Posted by Aresem on 08 January 2012 - 08:57 PM in Help and Error Reporting

I couldn't find the "post new topic" or whatever button there yesterday,

and I realized now that's because it's not there

#48 What is your favorite setting?

Posted by Aresem on 08 January 2012 - 08:50 PM in Fantasy

My favorite setting is the kind Dresden Files and nWoD are in.

Supernatural fantasy sci-fi (I guess) ;)

#46 Computer wallpapers

Posted by Aresem on 08 January 2012 - 08:47 PM in Nerd Art

Not bad. Not particularly nerdy, but not bad :D

#45 Dice and dice systems

Posted by Aresem on 08 January 2012 - 08:42 PM in Tabletop Games

I think they're both just right for their own systems. D&D and other D20 games are heavier in the technical aspect of gameplay, so the need for different dice is almost unavoidable.

Then there's nWoD, which is much more storytelling oriented (Hence, you know, the "storytelling system" :P) so as long as it's plausible they're determining your outcome with a simple "fail, succeed, or succeed like a ninja"

#18 Possibility of a D&D Podcast

Posted by Aresem on 07 January 2012 - 11:26 PM in Tabletop Games

Hey, I bet you didn't notice, but I'm all about that sweet 'n' salty Dungeons and Dragons. Well, my brother ran a D&D podcast for a while that I was lucky enough to be a part of, wherein we would run a portion of a different custom-created campaign each week. It's not entirely in character, of course, so it's more like nerd sports with a side of storytelling than a radio drama. We took a hiatus once his buddy Justin came down with a case of the newborns, but we've been looking to get started on it again.

So I just figured I've give a heads up for anybody interested in that sort of thing, cuz I'll probably be linking it once we actually bring it back to life. Same with the previous podcasts, if I can remember the name of the damn thing.

#15 Rules?

Posted by Aresem on 07 January 2012 - 11:01 PM in Suggestions

Good enough rules so far. What about language? Obviously there'll have to be some limits, so I'd like to be sure of them ahead of time.

...on a separate note, how do I start a thread? I seriously can't figure it out

#9 Saints Row 3

Posted by Aresem on 07 January 2012 - 10:48 PM in Video Games

I'm in ur row,

sniping ur saintz.

...I WANT THAT GAME SO GODDAMN BAD  I've been forced to keep playing SR2 over and over and over and over and over and etc.

#6 Welcome!

Posted by Aresem on 07 January 2012 - 10:42 PM in Introductions

Well helloooo there. I'm ol' Aresem, we all know that, and I'm a nerd (we also know that)

You can find me all over the pleasure end of the nerd spectrum, which is basically everything but academics.

My biggest, wink wink, nerd trait would have to be my love of the supernatural. I'm into superhero comics, paranormal sci-fi, and all the forms of fantasy flowing out of Tolkiens grave. I'm big into gaming, computer or tabletop, and the second you mention dice I'll be rolling up character sheets.

That's me in a nutshell, you'll figure the rest out as you go ;)
