I'm not entirely sure which one yet, I'll be looking to see what Fry's has on stock, since I need a few other things there as well. Once I buy and install it, I'll be sure to post a review. Is there anything you guys want to know about them specifically?

I would like to know something specifically about solid state drives:

What in the world is a solid state drive and what makes solid state drives different from regular hard drives?

I've heard of the term plenty of times, I just really do not know what they are.

A solid state drive is a drive that uses flash memory instead of magnetic platters like conventional hard drives. Though currently they hold less space than a typical hard disk drive, they make great boot drives, for a few reasons. First of all, the lack of moving parts means they're more stable. Secondly, they are absurdly faster at loading data than disk drives. You can normally go from power on to a loaded windows environment in <10 seconds. (If you time your computer now, you'll see how big of a difference that is. Also, since the operating system is on this drive and loading things so much faster, things on a separate disk drive also load faster, as well as anything else you have on the SSD. On modern computers, a lot of the loading time is actually caused by the time it takes a hard drive to pull up the information, not bottlenecked by the processor or ram anymore.

IMO, it's the best upgrade you could get for any modern computer.

So, Fry's pricing for them were pretty terrible on them, so I'm just going to get one from newegg and have it delivered, it'll be a bit longer.

I order a lot of stuff from them, but normally Fry's is pretty competitive, and it's a brick and mortar store, so that's always nice. This time though, they were nearly twice the price.

I actually wonder how long these hold up... also, will they survive an EMP attack? :D Important question...

They hold up just as well as the current platter drives, and even better in some situations. :)

I was looking at 128gb. With the rate they're going down though, I'm seriously considering waiting another month or two until the 256gb ones are cheaper.
