I made this one out of a piece of .5" hex bar. It's bored at exactly .177 and the entire thing was made with pretty basic tools, a hacksaw, drill press, and sand paper.
I started by cutting the barrel length, around 40mm. To ensure the ends were level, I chucked it up in my drill-press and pressed it down on a bit of 120 grit sandpaper. This also makes nice little rings to help you find center. Afterwards I put it in a drill-press clamp and set my depth to 30mm before centering my .177" bit (#16 machinist bit btw) and drilling out the barrel nice and slow. The fuses I use are 1.5mm (about 1/16") so I drilled the appropriate sized hole 28mm down the barrel, giving just a bit of room behind the fuse to hold powder as well. Once done, I put it back in the drill-press and repeated the sandpaper method, this time working up to 4000 grit, ensuring the end is free from rings and mirror smooth.
I have since given the barrel to my dad, a master carpenter, to make a cool little stand for it. Once he's done I'll post more pictures. I plan on building more soon in an attempt to sell them, and when I do I'll create a video tutorial.

Oh man, that's flipping sweet!

I don't think he needs to be immortal. I think all he needs to do is to write the right story. Because some stories do live forever.

Thanks.
Yeah, I'm hoping to get the mount soon to make another video and take some better pictures of it.
