#40773 Heroes you actually strive to be

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 10:55 PM in Comics, Books, and Graphic Novels

far more capable then you realize. Harley I mean, she trapped batman, could have killed him and he had no way to stop her except to get the joker involved, knowing his ego wouldn't allow anyone but himself to do it.

That's why I said 'how pathetic and useless she can be' instead of 'how pathetic and useless she is.'

Well I wouldn't want to spoil the mystery :P

#40527 Heroes you actually strive to be

Well if I can do villains, then Poison Ivy, Mystique, and the Queen of Fables come to mind. But if I'm being honest, my top choice would be Harley Quinn. I hate how pathetic and useless she can be, but that's a level of depravity (not to mention flexibility) that I could really be proud of.

#40524 List of awesome horror films please

What about the sequels :P

The sequels make me cry tears of bitter betrayal. Like Star Wars episodes I-III (and VII-?), I like to pretend they never happened.

#40523 Favorite romance?

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 04:17 AM in Comics, Books, and Graphic Novels

-Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester
-Harley Quinn and the Joker
-Abby Holland and Swamp Thing

That...probably says a lot about me ><;

#40518 What are you reading?

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 04:00 AM in Comics, Books, and Graphic Novels

I'm currently reading The Greek Myths by Robert Graves and The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There by Catherynne M. Valente.

#40517 Heroes you actually strive to be

I would have to say either Huntress (Modern Age) or Alice from Resident Evil. Maybe Zatanna.

It's complicated, though, because I typically identify with and favor villains...so in thinking of heroines that I would like to be more like, I gravitate more towards ones who, like Huntress, are focused against one particular group of bad guys (the mafia) or who, like Alice, fight zombies and mutated animals (okay, and Umbrella employees).

Actually, now that I think more about it, Zoe Washburne is a much better choice for me. All the ass-kicking and oozing sex appeal, but morals and a sense of humor which are more aligned with my own.

#40510 Red Dwarf, anyone?

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 03:13 AM in Sci Fi

I think my favorite might be the episode where Rimmer gets trapped on the psy-moon, and his captors chain him up and oil him down >>;

#40509 Favorite mythical creature

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 03:10 AM in Fantasy

I love vampires and werewolves as much as the next person, but I have much more love for: selkies, hinkypunks (will-o-the-wisps), and satyrs.

And of course, my all-time favorite, goblins.

#40506 Favorite fantasy movies

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 02:57 AM in Fantasy

I'm incapable of selecting just one, but here are a few (in no particular order):

Labyrinth
Legend
The Goonies
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
The Neverending Story
Troll
The Princess Bride

While I love LotR as books, I wasn't terribly fond of the movies. The Hobbit, on the other hand, I loved.

#40505 Red Dwarf, anyone?

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 02:54 AM in Sci Fi

I still haven't seen series X, I've got to get a hold of that soon. And...and...god I love Rimmer ><;

#40501 World of Warcraft - The Movie

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 02:39 AM in Fantasy

My first thought: Oh god, but Hollywood ruins everything I love.

My second thought: This will probably make WoW cosplay easier in the long run.

I guess you have to take the good with the bad =/ Also, at least it has a decent director attached to it. Could be worse. Could be Uwe Boll.

#40500 Red Dwarf, anyone?

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 02:37 AM in Sci Fi

I was surprised not to see a Red Dwarf thread here! Has anyone seen it? It's my favorite science fiction show D=

If you haven't seen it, but love science fiction and appreciate British comedy, you should check it out. All but the tenth series are available streaming on Netflix.

#40498 Best Sci-Fi video game of all time

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 02:32 AM in Sci Fi

BioShock, Portal, Portal 2, Halo 2.

#40497 what is your favourite sci-fi movie ?

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 02:30 AM in Sci Fi

In no particular order:

Star Wars IV-VI
Fifth Element
Equilibrium
Starship Troopers
The Day the Earth Stood Still (original)

#40495 Firefly

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 02:24 AM in Sci Fi

I love Firefly! Jayne is my favorite...gets me all 'hot and bothered,' as it were. Also, I think Badger is grossly underrated.

#40493 Star Trek or Star Wars?

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 02:20 AM in Sci Fi

I don't feel that either is better than the other; both were total game-changers and still well-loved decades after their debuts.

But for me personally, I'll always be a Star Wars gal. I love a good plot, but I'm all about the characters - and I find the Star Wars ensemble to be much more satisfying. Star Trek never managed to make me care immensely about any particular characters, whereas the mere mention of Sarlaac pits can bring tears to my eyes.

#40488 First Anime you saw?

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 01:45 AM in Anime

I can't remember which was first, but I discovered Petite Princess Yucie and Record of Lodoss War in the same day after getting lost in Comcast's OnDemand menu. Yucie remains one of my favorites to this day >>;

Oooh, I've found a place where the men wear tophats and there's Snake in the arcade? I think I could get used to this :P

#40482 From the Mystical Gardens of...New Jersey...

Posted by TheGoblinQuill on 03 February 2013 - 01:26 AM in Introductions

Hello! My name is Quinn. I'm a 23-year-old female; hermit; currently out of work and on hiatus from college (where I'm studying archaeology).

I'm a nerd-of-all-trades, I suppose - being equally fond of books, movies, music,TV shows and all manner of games. I'm awful at describing myself, so I shall give you a jumble of words representing my favorite things in life:

apples - Star Wars - horror - classic rock - nautical archaeology - witchcraft - Billy Joel - the ocean - Con Air - Ray Bradbury - Jane Eyre - John Malkovich - Red Dwarf - Bioshock - The Boondock Saints - sushi - Alice Cooper - Batman - 80s hairbands - alcohol - Spaghettios - Nox Arcana - Def Leppard - Halloween (the holiday) - Hellraiser - black and white stripes - the color green - the color purple - The Hunchback of Notre Dame - Neil Gaiman - Doctor Who - American Horror Story - Peter and the Wolf - mythology - tattoos - pipe tobacco

It's not a complete list, but hopefully you've got some idea of who I am.

As to why I'm here...socialization, I suppose. It's a lot easier to find kindred spirits on the internet than in your neighborhood.
