It depends on the company. Apparently the comparison site I was using shat itself yesterday, now it's showing me lots of sub-1k plans, yay. Cheapest (that works for me) is just over £750 now >.> still ick, but better. It's the lowest-price insurance that features legal cover so if I have to go to court over a motor offense/accident, I don't have to spend a shitton of money on hiring legal counsel. England sucks.
Mine's also higher because I lost my no-claims bonus in an accident last year. It wasn't my fault, but I still had to report it which took my no-claims out >.> bah

I wasn't actually injured at all, I just cracked my helmet and scraped the paint off the bike. But, it counts as an accident and counts as an insurance claim, so yeah >.>
