This is a marketing thing.  The idea is that if you like their tires so much, you will freely advertise their product for them on your car.

Expecting them to say yes isn't the point.  Most won't.  But the ones who do is essentially free advertising.  Top of mind awareness advertising, dude.

 

(Remember, I got a degree in marketing.  Classically trained in marketing.)
