This is no true - Legos are not being used as the company name but as the bricks themselves.Lego is both singular and plural, you don't need to put an 's' on the end when there's more than one. I say this because I care...and as a language student, this abuse of non-standard English makes me want to cough my lungs up.
Ex. Macintosh computers, or Mac. We refer the countable object, the machine, as Mac(s).Cars are the same way, "That gentleman owns five BMWs!"

What emo said is correct. The assumption that the plural of LEGO is LEGO stems from the original message from the site http://legos.com, which after a quick google said "The word LEGO is a brand name, and is very special to all of us in the LEGO Group Companies. We would sincerely like your help in keeping it special. Please always refer to our products as “LEGO bricks or toys” and not “LEGOS.” By doing so, you will be helping to protect and preserve a brand of which we are very proud, and that stands for quality the world over. Thank you!" This was because of Lego's fear of losing it's trademark after it's patent expired in 1998 I believe, and other companies began competing with them. It's not that LEGO is the plural, but LEGO Bricks. That's a pretty big mouthful so legos is used by pretty much everyone not working for the LEGO company.Lego is both singular and plural, you don't need to put an 's' on the end when there's more than one. Plus, both "Lego are an important research tool." and "Lego is an important research too." sound off.
Also, you're probably wondering how I know this, and how I just reached that crazy level of nerdom. Being a lego engineer was my very first dream job.
And who cares how or why? It's awesome.
I thought that said legs and I was all "I like researching legs." .

I prefer a bit higher.

Shimona.
If I were conducting studies, I would want to use the most fun objects I could find as well.
Research, they're doing it right.
