Unfortunately I don't see any data for me to be able to pull this from. I'll keep flipping through, no promises though.

I'm sad that there's sill 10 people using AOL, and and that there's nothing keeping up with the time spent online. Is there any way to start tracking time logged in, or would that not be terribly simple to do?

It wouldn't be too hard to do, just a scalability issue. The ACP might even have something to turn it on, I'm not sure.

I remember when I used to have an AOL. Even had the AOL internet browser thing. Don't even remember what it looked like. But it was back in the dial up era.

If it weren't for the art of mockery I wouldn't even remember what AOL was.

It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

Oh man I loved the dial-up noise. What was that old browser? Mosaic? I think I remember the passover from Mosaic to IE, although on second thoughts Mosaic was before my time so I'm not sure.

AFAIK it doesn't. I know I had my old 2.3 board modded for it, but it never made it to the newer versions. What kind of scalability issues would be encountered?

Since PHP is stateless* you'd end up having to add two fields to Members or a new table designed with MemberID, LastRequest, TotalTime. Every time a logged in user requests a page it would have to check if the last activity date longer than the timeout duration (predetermined, 10 minutes or whatever you would want to set it to); if it was too long it simply appends the new date to LastRequest, otherwise it gets the time difference in minutes and adds it to TotalTime.

But then you're going to run into an issue where TotalTime is going to exceed the max int value

*someone please correct me if I'm wrong here

Hrm. I know that forums have this, even large ones. What would be the max value?
If we stored as hours to x decimal point instead of minutes, and then converted that on page to minute, would that work out?

Well, when it overflowed you could add another row but you'd have to combine them. I'll have to look at how IPB keeps track of logged in users, it might already be appending last activity.

Yeah, I can see how this could eat up space with lots of users. If you get a chance, check if IPB has any of it in place and let me know.
