Currently, the only console I have is an N64 and a NES(old school man). I'm considering buying a 360 or PS3 and either getting a TV, or playing them on my monitor(27" goodness). Admittedly though, I know nothing about modern consoles. Should I wait for the next generation or not? If not, what are some things I should know?

I own a ps3, but I dunno much about the 360, so I cant say for sure if there's an advantage to either one.

what are you looking for in a modern console, and/or what would influence you to get one?

Mostly, just games I can't play on my PC. I used to be a big Final Fantasy fan, but I dunno if the new ones are any good. I've also wanted to play Gears of war, and a handful of other xbox games, so I'm kinda torn. Plus, I'd kinda like to just lay back on my bed and play with a controller again.

I sold back alot of my games, but I liked soul calibur, and GTA IV, though, I think GTA san andreas is better. honestly a lot of the ps3 games I was looking forward to were dissapointments, resident evil 5 rings a few of those bells.

The PS3 it outselling the X360 right now, but the X360 does still have a larger user base.

I have the PS3 and think it is a better machine so that would be my recommendation. You are going to want way bigger than a monitor to enjoy HD gaming though, aim for a 42" plasma telly!

If its for Final Fantasy, PS3! Also there are a lot of exclusive IPs on it which are nowhere else, while 360 games tend to be ported sooner or later (save it for some things like Gears of War 3... but then there is this little thing going around the internet that Micro$oft could plan to integrate Xbox compatibility into Windows 8, for a fee ofcourse). I would rather go Sony. Or wait until summer and Nintendo reveals more about the Wii U though I would not get my hopes too high on that sector to be honest.

I normally watch HD videos on my monitors just fine, though I admit, a bit 42"+ tv would be awesome.

Chukkzy- I haven't played any of the new ones, are they still good games, or have they lost quality? I don't really care for what I've seen about the Wii U so far, so I'm not too worried about it. Are there any other good games only for the PS3?

There are quite a few, starting with Metal Gear Solid 4 which wraps up the Metal Gear Saga nicely (I still need to play it, which means I need to buy a PS3... dang!), also stuff like Ratchet & Clank as well as games like Modnation Racers or Little Big Planet. If you like Shooters, there is Resistance, if you like "run around and do stuff" action there is Infamous... you get my drift lol.

If I ever get another console then it will be a PS3.

For Final Fantasy, I am not really an expert there as I only played a bit of FFX, which has too small text to read for my old Amiga RGB screen I hooked my PS2 on. People keep saying that the new FF parts are not as good, but I have a friend with a PS3 who says that is not true and he likes the games. I guess its a matter of taste.

I remember ratchet and clank, those were some awesome games. Now that you mentioned it, I remember seeing a trailer for Resistance when it first came out, and wanted to play it pretty bad, I'd forgotten all about it though.

On that topic, I read today that there will be less 360 exclusive titles now... so yeah, they prove my point nicely.

I've always liked the games better for the hex-bawks, myself.
Like Left 4 Dead and Tales of Vesperia.

It's a jrpg that has a combat system a little bit more like a fighting game.
Same as most of the "Tales of" games. They're one of my favorite game franchises.

[I actually have no idea if they're exclusive. I don't follow the console wars too closely. I bought the hex-bawks 'cause it was cheaper.]
