I'm looking to replace a pair of 6850's in crossfire. Mostly I'm looking to run WoW on ultimate at 1080. Any suggestions?

Just slap a couple of Titans in there and problem solved.

I've been really happy with my 7950. I only have one but anything I've played runs at 60+ fps maxed minus Crysis 3 (it would dip to ~40 when a lot was going on).

AMD is shipping a new line of cards soon though I thought, might be worth waiting.

Yeah, I was hoping the 8 series would be out soon, that's what I was trying to wait on.

Why are ya replacing them?

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me-- and there was no one left to speak for me.

I'm ordering an R9 270X for my soon to be brother in law. If you're on the fence I can furmark it vs. my 7950 (same pricepoint).

Because I can't run WoW on the highest settings anymore. >.>

I'd very much appreciate that.

o.0 I see. That is indeed a replacement worthy reason.

Yeah, the MoP are surprisingly graphic intensive now.

I can still do High-Ultra, but not with multisampling to keep all the smooth edges.

I'm quite happy with my XFX HD7870 GHZ edition, I imagine running them in crossfire would be nice. Prices of the 7xxx will be dropping soon too with the new Rxxx series on it's way. (R series is just rebadged and slightly tuned 7xxx cards with DX 11+ support, except for the top two which are new cards.)

I actually had a 6850 before putting in the 7870 and there was a very noticeable difference 1 on 1.

I'd say 99% of the time you're better off going with a higher price point card over crossfire/SLI. Communicating and balancing workload over two cards had performance implications.

I'm actually doing the exact same thing, except replacing a single 6850.  I'm thinking of going with a used 660 Ti.  It'll provide a pretty big performance boost plus it's under 200 dollars.  Unfortunately I don't think it will be possible for me to crossfire or SLI because of damage to the motherboard.

I've been browsing ebay and I've seen a lot of 660 Ti's that are used for under 200 dollars, and some that are new and under 200 dollars which ship from china.  I'm honestly not sure which is more trustworthy... they both sound potentially sketchy.

Anyone have any advice in that regard?

Isn't the 7950 over 400 dollars?  I'm confused here.

Unless you're talking about crossfiring two R9s..

It's pretty easy to upgrade from a single one, most everything out now is better.

7970's are the more expensive ones.

The other question I had was if my 2500K would support it... I heard there was some kinda issue with PCI 3.0 and older CPUs?  Maybe I've got that wrong though...

I'm looking at AnandTech, and the 270x seems like a decent bet...

PCI 3.0 is backwards compatible. No video cards can over-saturate PCI 2.0 yet, so there should really be no issue at all.

Well at least that's not an issue.

Seems like there are a lot more options for me than I thought, though.  The gtx 660 ti, gtx 760, radeon 7870, and r9 270x all seem like solid enough upgrades.  Not sure which I wanna go with...

Nope, I bought mine at a little over $300 on newegg a while back but at the time of posting (post r8/r9 series) it was on sale for $200.

Damn... that's an amazing deal.  Do they have deals like that often?

Usually just around Thanksgiving-Christmas, but every once and a while they'll put them on a decent sale.
