First off I didn't know where to put this. Anyways, I am looking on making a minecraft tekkit server and I was looking at the wikia here: http://thetekkit.wik...a_Tekkit_Server, and thin I saw the requirements:
  • Dual Core Processor
  • 4GB of Ram (8+ is great!)
  • 200+ GB Hard Drive/SSD
  • Gigabit Ethernet Connection (Not Wireless)
  • Preferably not a laptop
Once I saw the Gigabit Ethernet connection I was like what the hell is that? So that is my question: What is Gigabit Ethernet Connection and where can I get it? I already have a wireless modem for my whole family, and if I get gigabit ethernet connection will I have to pay more if I still want to keep the wireless modem for the rest of my family? I also want some prices and if it is worth it. And please explain to me what it actually is.

I believe Google is the only place that offers residential gigabit currently, and only in Kansas City. It's either someone who doesn't realize what they're asking, or they're set up on just a lan with a bunch of other local people, in which case gigabit is standard on most better motherboards and generally switches have gigabit uplinks.

On the minecraft note, I just ordered stuff to make a pretty nice server, should be getting it all in next friday or so.

Depends on what the up speeds are of your "average modem"

Go to speedtest.net - if you're above 1Mb/s up you're fine to run a minecraft server (most likely - I don't know if your ISP does any kind of traffic shaping against it).

Okay so now I just need to port forward a server which I know how to do on the top of my head. Then just download the Tekkit contents and unzip it in the right place and follow the wikia directions, if I am correct, right?
