Hey all,

I've been just been searching through reems of Wikipedia pages and Youtube videos looking up things to do with the Genesis of life.I was wondering what your opinion is on how life came about on Earth?

I was at one point a Catholic creationist, until I was maybe nine or ten that's what I was brought up to believe so that's what I believed. Obviously once I got into secondary school this was all changed, now I'm an agnostic I don't hold the inherent creation of life on Earth to any god like being, or at least not on purpose. I like the idea of panspermia, i.e. that life on Earth came from elsewhere, for instance a comet might have crashed onto the primordial Earth depositing extremophiles onto the planetary surface, thus giving creation to life as we know it.

how about you guys?

That's what I believe too, and seems to be the most likely theory.

The question is, where did that life come from?

Exactly, I think life did evolve naturally, as we imagine it to have done. But perhaps an advanced race has helped spread some life across the universe too. Although that, to me, is unlikely, but it's my only explanation as to the possibility of a 'scientific god'.

Right, but at what point did something like a rock spawn into life?

I don't think it happened quite like that! ;D

Complex amino acids formed from proteins and stuff which are usually chains of hydrocarbons or something. I think the four elements, carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen, (CHON) have the potential to make the building blocks of life. Of course stars emit these atoms and they are readily available in nebulae. It shouldn't be that hard to create life eventually given the vastness of the Universe.

lol, that was just an example. I just mean from inanimate to living.

Ah, well from amino acids to go to RNA I think can be done in scientific conditions, and then I don't know how RNA evolves into DNA.

I'm not sure myself, but I imagine it's an interesting process.

It'd be great to find out. I'd like to see life on another planet too. Or moon. If I ever become a billionaire I'll fund a NASA project to send a probe to Titan.

Oh, that'd be pretty neat. Just start launching rockets full of microbes at celestial objects.

I don't believe in the Big Bang (or evolution) anymore than I believe in Creationism.

Well I want to see if there's already life on Titan. If not...yes, I will bombard it with Earth microbes.

I believe that everything, to the bare minimum, is energy and we went from there. I mean we're basically made of a bunch of gases, solids, and liquids, ya know. I'm Agnostic as well. I don't really put my faith in a God or anything like that. I would rather put my faith in people. Honestly though, I don't think about this that much.

I think it's interesting just to see how we went from protein chains that technically weren't living, to simple RNA strands and then single celled organisms.

Yeah it is pretty interesting. Everything is just an evolution these days. I mean, despite all the people that are very immature and stupid, we as a species are getting smarter. Just think, the technology we have now was here before any of us were here. We just didn't know how to harness it. We weren't smart enough back then. But now we have 3D TVs, Blu-ray, 4G cellphones, it's quite awesome.

Maybe we're humans 2.0, there were humans before us but they all became extinct due to a cataclysmic event that knocked us back to the stone age!

You all know I am Christian, and that my belief is that we were all created by God. Though I have always wondered to myself, if God created us, then who created God? And the being that created God? Who created him? Its a very confusing question. One in which I want to not think of very much due to my idiocy xD I get tangled up in my own thoughts. Once when I was a child, I asked my mom who was the person that had created God, her answer is that God had always existed. This to me was impossible. But then that though of impossibility clashed with the very though of the existence of a god itself. So because of faith I decided to just believe in what I feel I must believe in.
