Try Full Metal Alchemist and this is easy to get into. Show them the new and original Pokemon.

I agree with FMA, it's very good and decently short.

I'd say Fruits Basket or The Wallflower. They've got action, comedy and romance so are pretty well rounded for a group of people.

Studio Ghibli films.

Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke are a few favorites. :)
I highly suggest Miyazaki's Spirited Away

Y'know, I tried to get into the manga first, but I just could not continue. Kept forgetting about it (and just faced the fact that I just don't like manga), but I love the plot and everything (and L is awesome) so I'll prolly give the anime a chance.

*Reviving what appears to be a dead thread*

I think that showing Sket Dance would be a great anime to start people on. It is about a high school club, and is pretty tame and quite funny.

The thing about anime is, people either love it or hate it. So I think if you are trying to get people to start watching anime then you should start with something that isn't so "out there". Something easy to watch without much confusion. Slice of life anime is what I would recommend.

If it's for an anime club, they probably already like anime...
