I am finding a really hard time finding any English Dubbing that I like

In every case, I seem to prefer subs, between better voice acting/casting, and more translation accuracy [because they arent murdering everything with localization] I just always would rather see the subs.

Perfect examples

FLCL: Saw it on [as], subbed. Fell in love with it, watched it over and over, but always felt a little confused throughout. Watched the english subbed version by the time I could literally quote the whole show, and was pretty shocked at how crappy the official translations were.

Death Note: Read the manga, then watched the whole subbed series. Tried to watch 1 ep of english dubbed, and couldn't stop laughing at Light's voice, and how crappy his voiceovers were.

About the only anime I can think that hasn't been completely devastated by dubs is the Dragonball series

Because it's hard to mistranslate

Goku yelling

Goku: "I will defeat you!"

Vegeta yelling

Frieza yelling

Man, I've been watching a couple of episodes of Trigun on Netflix, and the English dub is just awful in it. But to add to the problem, I really dislike reading subtitles; I feel like I'm missing out on the animation by focusing on the subs. Fuck. >.<

I used to hate that too,

i've always been a quick reader, and at first that was the big hang-up for subtitles for me too

but you get used to it, I think

Honestly I prefer the Japanese voices and reading the subs. Way more emotion. But there are some exceptions, Like Naruto, Lucky Star and DBZ.

There was a time where i only watched subbed because i got tired of waiting for new episodes. The WORST dubbing is the oldies stuff from the 90's and stuff back when they gave the characters english names and stuff like that. They even dubbed relationships lol Sailor moon for exampled if any one has watched the sailor moon stars saga yeah like half of them where gay. Though i always knew about neptune and uranus but i was kind of shocked about some others. Still one of my favorite series though :D But yeah i actually got to the point where i was learning while reading so i got to the point where i didn't have to read as much.

I hate subs. I often find that, especially with action-based series' like Darker Than Black or Full Metal Panic, following the subs often leads to missing the actual interesting parts. So what I generally did before I learned Japanese was to watch it in English first so I understood what was going on, then rewatch it as soon as I finished, in Japanese. That way I could focus on the whole, rather than just one part.

Not enough to carry a conversation i would only understand a few words here or there but was able to get what was being said. it took like 3 or 4 years maybe more to get to that point though lol. I don't know enough though to do that anymore.

Oh I took Japanese classes :3 Though I'm afraid I can't keep up a conversation with a real Japanese, not because I don't know, but because I get too nervous and that causes me to freeze and forget everything. Making me look like a darn weebo xD
