Ayup folks,
There's a question that has come to surface in my mind on occasion, as early as yesterday it became a topic of conversation between me and a friend, but neither of us could think of an answer, to be honest I hadn't the inclination to try and think too hard about it any way. The question is this: what constitutes being a nerd? I've long wondered, I think that perhaps there's some sort of spectrum, different sub-types, orthodox and unorthodox nerds, social factors no doubt play some sort of influence, as well as conforming to societal stereotypes or not.
So, who better to ask such a question than a body of self confessed nerds? What makes you define yourself as a nerd?
I think it's interesting, certainly I'd classify myself as having nerdy aspects, I game, I watch nerdy films, I read a lot, until only a year or two ago I was very socially awkward...but there are other things that lead me to believe I can't be a nerd, or at least, not a very good one! XD
So, perhaps we can unravel this question and come to some sort of conclusive element? Could be fun! =D

Hmm I like where this is going, I feel the force is getting strong with this one. Bet everyone's gonna describe themselves xD
Anyways, I do believe there are a lot of stereotypes and lets face it most of the are true. As for me I'm truly a mix of a lot of things. First of all I consider myself an Otaku. People say its an insult, and an insult it may be, but thats what I am. Otaku means a freak. A freak of anything. Freak of food, cats, anime? Well I'm an anime/manga/comics/books Otaku. Second, I love and I mean LOVE junk. I don't know, I just love old stuff, like old computers, nokias, old and over used clothes?You name it. Yeah, I might end up looking like a vagabond if I keep this little obsession have xD Another thing I'm sure makes me a nerd is that I'm always talking about monsters, aliens and zombies. The Apocalypse to be exact. As I said in another topic, me and some friends always end up talking about it before leaving. Gets my adrenaline pumping :3

On here you on apocalyptic front, I'm forever searching for new articles/ game and films on the subject. Literally just finished watching Book of Eli again with my brother, right now I'm listening to
and next week I think I'll watch Legion. I love the Fallout franchise and one of my favourite books in my earlier years was the Zombie Survival Guide. I wouldn't say I welcome the doom of humanity, but I'd like to think I could hash it it if occurred. XD

There has to be more to it than that, we have an established community here, but yet there's no self classification? Intriguing.

2. An intelligent, single-minded expert in a particular technical discipline or profession.
