I was considering getting this during winter when the vegetables around here.


Apparently they don't send the same meals twice, thought it might be neat to get new recipes that way. I tend to stick to the same dozen or so meals.

Seems expensive to me, but that's just based on my own grocery bill. You got kids, so birthday cake wouldn't be a decent dinner.

 

Seriously. All I bought at the store today was a birthday cake and IBC root beer, the glass bottles. But I have a week's worth of cake, so I got that going for me.

 

I wouldn't know what to do if a box of veggies were delivered to my house and I wasn't in the mood.

I mean, I could have cake for dinner for us, but I don't wanna raise sugar high little chub nuggets. >.>
I started making them eat a piece of fruit before they got to partake in snack foods recently. 
Turned out better than I thought, they hardly bitched.


But yeah, it is a bit pricey.. and it's not even the full week..

I just was thinking when winter comes and everything is all gross and wilty here it might be worth giving a shot to.

Especially since they give full recipes with the items and then I can just go buy them for cheaper later on.


Maybe I'll just say fuck it and get some cookbooks tho, there's a few on thinkgeek I've been eyeing.

This seems like fun but I don't like to cook with recipes.

Also I've been eating porridge with peaches for dinner all week so this may be too elaborate for me ^^

Woah, woah, some cake. Hypoglycemia runs strong in the fam. Two pounds of cake are left in the fridge. Also, probably shouldn't have put cake in the freezer. Not my best move.

 

Also, I had lunchables and whiskey last week. Cake and rootbeer seem a smidgen better.

 

That fruit idea is pretty good. Mom used to tell us to drink a glass of water.

 

I live in a semi-tropical area where the winters only barely get down to freezing. Lower part of state grows veggies late into the year. Plus, Florida. So I never thought about bad fruit and veggies. Potatoes are the most common thing I cook with, crock pot stew style.

That was the best way to get me to eat veggies as a kid.

I just tried apricots a couple of years ago. They're amazingballs with Cinnamon grits. Seems similar.

I honestly just wing it and if it comes out well I perfect it and continue to do it.

But I've been having a lot of repeating lately and I'm looking to broaden what we're having to try and see if I can expose them to a much more diverse way of eating.

Dani: Actually cake holds up rather well in the freezer if wrapped properly.
That's how people who save the first slice of their wedding cake for their first anniversary do it. It turns out especially well if you freeze it then vacuum seal it.

Yeah his choice is oranges and hers is bananas, I'm hoping to get the to like at least two more fruits a piece and one more vegetable a piece by the end of the year. I finally got them over their mashed potato phobia and they had some grilled corn on the cob this week. They're so goddamn picky, it drives me insane. >. >

Yeah I moved about two hours further north, it gets cold as fuck.

I love it tho.

Yeah I got a crackpot when we moved in, it's amazing.

I still prefer to cook my chicken soup and chili the long and drawn out way, tastes better to me. But there's been quite a few dishes I've mastered in the crock pot that are amazeballs.

If I plan to cook something new I just buy the two most important ingredients, check the recipe and the fridge and then just throw in whatever else feel like it would taste good.. works out most of the time

 

Porridge is awesome if you don't mind the slimy consistency. It takes like 2 minutes to make, you can keep oats forever if they stay dry and you can eat it with whatever fruits you like. I normally cut the peaches up, and cook them in a pan with a bit of water and some honey for a minute. best thing ever

Is it just a type of oatmeal preparation?


My knowledge of porridge is only due to fables and children stories.

I make it with oatmeal normally.. also tried it with barley (i dont know if that's the correct word I just translated the german word ) but that takes ages..

Have you ever tried I savory? That sounds neat.


I love grits, I like them either cheesy with black pepper or sweet with cinnamon.

I use half milk half water if I have milk.. ^^ and I put in vanilla sugar.

 

I never tried a savory. Tell me if you try that.

Vanilla sugar sounds so good.

If I get my hands on some vanilla beans I plan on making some, yum.
