What are your personal favorites?

I haven't watched a new anime in a long long time and I want to just gorge on some soon.

I haven't looked into many new shows. Though I'm rewatching Spice & Wolf, and Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic at the moment, along with keeping up on SAO2 and Fairy Tail.

Magi is quite fun if you haven't seen it though. It's this weird alternate-universe thing with characters like Aladdin, Ali Baba, and Sinbad. Except they all have magical powers, and can summon djinn.

Well I meant moreso new to me.

My exposure to anime has been extremely limited in the past to shows off Adult Swim or random images that peaked an interest, youtubes, etc.

So any non main stream shows I probably know nothing of and would love to see some good ones I'm sure I missed out on.

This looks like a good list to get started on, thanks.

What sort of things do you like?

Haha your reaction made me snort on my phone. <. <

Uhm, I like all different kinds really.

Some of my favorites are Hellsing, FLCL, Ergo Proxy, FMA, Paranoia Agent, Trigun..

Erm, I guess as long as they aren't 300 thousand episodes like Bleach, Naruto, and the like I'll give them a go.

But, yeah, silly..gory..action packed..romance filled.. I'm fine with it all.

Have you watched Level E? I love that one... great anime and it's nice and short so there isn't tons of filler episodes.

Well, some of my favourites...

Kore wa Zombie Desu ka?/Is This A Zombie?

Aikawa Ayumu is a normal high school boy. One day he is killed by a serial killer and revived as a zombie by a necromancer named Eucliwood Hellscythe. He starts to serve Eu as her guard but he happens to deprive the masou-shoujo Haruna of her magic power. Haruna orders Ayumu to fight against the anti-masou-shoujo system "Megalo" in her place.

Lots of comedy, lots of gore, a bit of harem, and one or two super-depressing parts that fully brought me to tears.

Busou Renkin/Arms Alchemy

The story begins when high school student Kazuki Muto is killed one night saving a mysterious girl from a monster, only to wake up in his school dorm, believing it to have been a dream; however, he soon finds out that dream wasn't a dream at all when a giant serpentine monster attacks him and his sister. Tokiko Tsumura, the girl he saved, explains that the monster is a homunculus. Kazuki had been attacked and killed by it when he was rescuing her; however, she, feeling responsible for him, revived him by placing a Kakugane medallion in his chest, serving as a replacement heart.

The Kakugane, as Tokiko explains, is an alchemical device that, when activated, takes a certain form based on the Kakugane's user, forming a unique Buso Renkin. The Buso Renkin is the only thing that can destroy a homunculus monster. Using this, Kazuki creates his own Buso Renkin (the "Sunlight Heart," a huge lance). Along with Tokiko and her own Buso Renkin (the "Valkyrie Skirt," an execution scythe), Kazuki joins the fight against the homunculi and their master.

A cute action/romance. The story revolves around a hidden war between human and homunculi, the latter of which need to devour humans in order to stay alive. It has a bunch of cool fight scenes, though the romance side of things usually feels forced.

Senjou no Valkyria: Gallian Chronicles/Valkyria of the Battlefield: Gallian Chronicles
Valkyria Chronicles is set in a fictitious continent reminiscent of 1930s Europe. The continent, called Europa, is divided into two main powers: The Imperial Empire, a monarchy in the east, and the alliance of democracies called the Federation in the west. In this world, there is a very important resource called ragnite; its uses range from fueling weapons of war to use in medical treatments. Since ragnite is such an important resource, the Federation and the Empire are constantly at war with each other for it.

The story takes place in the neutral country of Gallia, known for its bountiful reserves of ragnite, when the Empire decides to invade and seize the ragnite for themselves. The story follows Welkin, the son of a former war hero; Isara, Welkin's Darcsen adoptive sister; and Alicia, a member of the Bruhl town watch, as they fight the Imperials in the ragtag Gallian militia group, Squad 7.

Squad 7 fights to regain their homes and livelihoods with Welkin as the squad leader and commander of the Edelweiss tank; Alicia as a scout; Isara as the pilot of the Edelweiss, and a variety of colorful individuals.

Based on a strategy RPG series by SEGA. It's got a pretty typical underlying story, good guys vs bad guys, democracy vs dictatorship, etc. with a really interesting side of things shown during the squad's downtime from battles. Not too much gore, but lots of dying, and like KWZD it made me cry more than once.

And finally

Saishu Heiki Kanojo/Saikano/SHE, The Ultimate Weapon/The Last Love Song on this Little Planet
Shuuji and Chise are third year students at a high school in Hokkaido. The shy Chise is finally confessing to Shuuji, and finally the two of them are starting to exchange diary awkwardly. One day, Shuuji tries to escape from a sudden enemy air raid on Sapporo. While desperately escaping from the air raid, Shuuji sees a scene that he could not forget for his life. He sees Chise, with a huge weapon looking as if it was part of her hand, shooting the enemy fighters down one by one. Apparently, Chise is the ultimate weapon with destructive power which is important for the war.

Oh god, this show. This, this, this. It's pretty much my favourite ever, it's so different to anything else I've ever watched. It's the saddest show I've ever seen. It's presented as Shuuji having flashbacks to the events he went through with Chise, and Wikipedia really nails the core. "This story focuses primarily on Chise's fading humanity as her condition worsens. The main conflict is within Chise herself; she questions whether or not she is human. Her soul is constantly trying to be a normal girl, while her body succumbs to the devastating effects of the weapon cell within her."

It's a beautifully-told tale of love and loss, and tissues are recommended because it's depressing as fuck. 13 episodes and I have yet to make it through a single one without bawling.

And as a side-note, it has a small spin-off manga named Love Story/Killed which is brutal, but amazing.
