Marvel or DC?

Who is better, Marvel or DC? Who would win in a fight, the avengers or the justice league? Which characters from each would win fighting against eachother? (Such as the hulk vs superman). Which characters were copies of characters from the other company?

I like a lot of characters from both, especially the obscure ones (like Ink or Booster Gold.) Obscure characters can also have awesome and/or hilarious powers.  It's a wash for me right now.

With the exception of batman, who is maybe my favourite superhero. Partially because of Christopher Nolan

 

Superman bores me. Too perfect. 
Green Lantern is blah. His powers are like the writers saying "lets do whatever"

Not sure how much you know about superman, but he is probably the most conflicted hero from DC. He's not perfect or invincible. He's basically the last of his people, on a planet that takes him for granted. He is constantly struggling with morality and making the right decision. Often he experiences overwhelming guilt because he can not save everyone.

I used to think the same way about superman until I actually started reading his books. Superman has to seem perfect on the outside because so many people rely on him. But on the inside he is far from perfect.

I've seen the entirety of the original tv series (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044231/), as well as watching all of the movies (at least, the live action ones). I have to confess to not having read the comics, but I still think I'm plenty familiar with the character to make this argument. 

 

If the writers ever want to create danger, they basically have to make shit up. READ: New types of cryptonite. 

Also, they never really capture the grit that could be presented. Everything is simplified and surface level. Nothing goes down deep. 

I'm sorry, but that constitutes bad writing to me. 

I agree that he became overpowered after a while, but the fucking guy had been in comics far before Adolf Hitler took an interest in politics.

It is pretty understandable that they ran out of plot and had to start giving him extra powers and borderline immortality by the time we came to know him.

 

Also, Superman is not meant to be anything even close to gritty.

He is an orphan on an alien world (with the exception of a cousin who also managed to survive) with the power of a God by comparison to the rest of the planet's inhabitants, who fights every day for a world that doesn't always appreciate his efforts and upholds a moral standard that is nigh infallible. He puts his catastrophically crippling problems aside and maintains his place as the bastion of human integrity and hope, even though he isn't one.B

 

Even his fortress of solitude is bright and shiny, made entirely of light and crystal.

 

Batman is the dark and gritty one, as he should be.

 

You walk in to a Superman movie and everything is lit up, bright and cheerful.

You walk in to a Batman movie and there is no way you are finding your seat.

Right. He's invulnerable, not invincible.

I agree that he isn't as interesting as a great many other super heroes.

Funny thing my friend pointed this out to me. He said that DC's full name is DC Comics. And the 'DC' stands for Detective Comics, so their company name is really Detective Comics Comics.....weird I know

Interesting. Well, I guess that settles it. Marvel is the superior company.
