I bought one in December for my own birthday and its a pretty interesting device, Super Mario 3D Land is very fun to play but it also reveals a great disadvantage of the 3D part: As soon as you move the 3DS the effect breaks as it only works when you STARE ON IT DEADPAN. @_@
That is why racing games work the best apparently, but you can adjust to it after a while. The store portion is interesting too, virtual console releases of classics like Metroid 2 or Zelda DX for a few bucks are just what I needed because lots of these games are being traded for stupid prices (50 bucks for a 20 year old game? No. Definitely no.) but it could be more organized.
I hope Nintendo gets their act together and starts supporting it better than the Wii.

What do you think?

I'm curious to try one. I've heard it causes headaches in some people, but I really think the 3d without glasses is the way to go, and I'm excited to see how it works.

Well it took me a while to adjust to it, to be fair. They tend to put these things into stands when you try them in stores, at the right height for little children... >_> So the 3D did totally not work for me there, even made my eyes hurt.
If you find a comfortable position, on a couch lets say, where you can hold your head still and arms up so you do not move too much its pretty nice though, after a few days of using it. And then there is always the slider which controls how much 3D you like, imagine it a bit like one of these popup books for kids sorta.

That's pretty awesome, I didn't know about the slider thing.

Some games would be unplayable without it, Super Monkey Ball for example has motion controls and you can impossibly use it the way intended with 3D, as you can not move the device. So you just turn it off. When I had the 3DS new I used to keep the slider pretty low, when I adjusted to it I turned it all the way up then.

It seems like bad planning to make a game for a 3D platform that you can't play in 3D.

Well a bit.

On the other hand its perfectly enjoyable in 2D I think, so its cool. Also the demos on the system are pretty impressive, overall and with the pricedrop I say its worth shelling out the money, and if its only to play Super Mario 3D Land. ;)

What's the price point at currently, as compared to a normal DS?

According to Amazon its 180 to 190 USD, I got mine for around 160 €, while the prices for "normal" dsi units range from 150 to the same pricerange. The important thing though here is that the 3DS is way more powerful, allowing for technically more advanced and elaborate games.
There is one problem though, and that is Nintendos strange marketing. But I hope they will overcome it and at least give me enough food for it so I can buy a game every 3 months or so for it.

Ah, yeah that's not a big price difference at all for better hardware, if I planned on buying one, I'd get the 3DS, even just for 2D games.

Yeah it still has DS compatibility and there is the store... I grabbed Metroid 2 and Zelda DX from it.

Well there is no way to play the originall cartridges, only the versions they upload to virtual console, sadly.

Ah, are those games free now, or do you have to buy them again?

Not free sorry, but they cost only a fraction of what you have to pay for a cartridge on the market... Zelda DX for example costs 8 € here on Virtual Console, 20 € upwards on ebay for a used copy. I think if you want to play your old cartridges a used GBA works best.

Ah, awesome. I think I only have 2-3 old gameboy games left laying around somewhere, so I was just curious.

I tried it out at Best Buy, it was a whole lot of fun fighting Gohma in 3D. I like the fact that you don't need the eye straining glasses for it, but I'm pretty much done with Nintendo... I just miss the old days too much to deal with what they're turning out now.

Still, gotta love 3D Ocarina of Time! GOTTA love it!

Love: Glasses free 3D

Hate: Holding the 3DS a certain distance and angle away

I can agree with that one.

I have a 3D ready monitor and I barely even use it cuz I end up being unable to focus clearly after looking away from the screen.

Seriously, I get all cross eyed and junk.
