CPU usage is high.. very high.

Hey guys,

So I'm running Windows 64 bit, Intel Core duo E8400, 4gb ram.

When I look at my cpu usage, it's constantly at 100%? I've looked this up and suggestions have been to run a virus check and update drivers. Well I'm clean of viruses and as far as I can tell all drivers are up to date - at least that's what windows is telling me...

Is there anything you guys know that I can do?

When you open your task manager, you can sort by cpu usage to see what's causing the problem. Chances are it's a game or something similar that didn't close properly. 

Yup. Just sort the processes by CPU usage, and post a screenshot. 

found the culprit. it was rainmeter. I thought that platform was supposed to be light?

I'm on my laptop now and it's ranging from 7%-30% with rainmeter installed. My desktop seems to be at 50% with nothing running and 100% with anything running - now with rainmeter uninstalled..

I'll definitely post a screen shot up theDaftDev, sorry it's taken me a while, I get wayy too distracted.

I feel your pain. My pc seems  relatively okay now, after i got rid of rainmeter and htc sync manager (i still dont know why they were chewing into so much of my cpu usage - or any program that runs for that matter) but a quick google search will tell you that this isn't an uncommon thing, and they usually suggest to do a couple of things: 1) run a virus scan, 2) do as Spleen and theDaftDev have suggested and run task manager to see what's eating into it, 3) check what programs are running at startup and see which ones you don't need. 

Which actually lets me segway into another topic I wanted to ask opinions of: we have an abundance of choice for virus cleaners, defragglers, and general cleaners. But which ones do we actually need and in what combination? Like, say, do you need a defraggler if you have CCleaner? 

What do you use and why?

I don't think they had USB that far back. Back in my day if you want to put stuff on other computers you had to use a floppy disc! I found some of my old floppy discs at my moms a few weeks ago.

Sadly I can't check what is on them anymore since no computer ever has a drive.

For the record, I have never owned a flashdrive that had over 2GB capacity because they weren't around then.

Just saying.

These days it seems like people are whipping out a 1-TB unit of storage on their fucking keychains. And I'm just sitting here using Google Drive.

My friend accidentally lost a usb stick of mine once, it wasn't very big at all, but to repay me he bought me a 30 gig one for like $15! Really generous guy

In that it was $15 bucks for 30 gigs, which is a lot of money compared to now, where you could probably buy yeah 1tb... I saw a review for the google nexus 6 the other day and all I could think of was "woah.. that thing's specs are nearly about as good as my desktop..."
