Got a new laptop today, I'm going to try and give windows 8 a good go. Any suggestions on things to make it work better?

If using their new ui, try to resist the urge to click the start button. :)

My co-worker runs 8. Apparently you just start typing what you want to run/edit/see and it all pops up.

Indexing for the win.

Windows 7 did that.

I have a program that puts a start menu back in and starts on the desktop rather than the tablet interface.

Windows 8 is a lot like Windows 7 if you don't use the whole app interface, so honestly its probably just better to get 7 since it is cheaper.

Uninstall it. That's how you make Windows 8 better.

First of all, you guys are missing the point, it's my job to learn this stuff.

Second, why would windows 7 be cheaper if windows 8 came with the computer? >.>

I meant if you theoretically had a choice.

As I said, I have Windows 8 and I mostly steer clear of the new features since they don't work well with my style of computing.

Which is having two windows on the screen at all times and like 3 more open in the background. The 'app' system they try to use has the program take over the entire screen, which I just find annoying.

but with a start menu added back in and ignoring the apps it basically runs like Windows 7, which is why I said a Windows 7 computer is basically the same and generally cheaper.
