I am HTML stupid. here is the deal…

Boss paid WAAAYYY to much for someone to design and host a web page.  Is there any software out there that I can use to design a page?

How does someone go about hosting?

Any info would be helpful.

Dreamweaver is the go-to WYSIWYG editor (powerful for back end stuff as well)

Hosting wise, there are a ton of options. Look into what you need.

I feel like I should be the voice of reason and tell you that if you don't know HTML you really should not be designing web pages. Drag and drop editors are bad.

The reason you hire professional is so your webpage doesn't look like this

The problem with designing websites without knowledge of HTML is that you're very limited in what you can do. Look at what happened when stuff like Freewebs and Geocities were around, everyone and their mother could make a cookie-cutter website... but since nobody who did it had any real skill with HTML they all looked like 13-year-old girls' Myspace pages.

The reason you hire a professional is because it'll look good, and effort is made to make it work. Being "HTML stupid" is the worst thing you can be when you want to make a website, unless you just go for shit like free forum hosts.

heh..  thanks.  I can hire out.  However, the boss paid 5 grand for http://www.leisureland-rv.com/ and I feel like he was robbed.  I do the updating, Page sucks.  The designer took 1 year to put it together and charges for each time I point out there is a mistake.

Well... some college student straight out of webdesign 101 made a cool 5 grand...

Also, how could it take them a year too put that together. The only thing on the page that required any sort of 'design' was the company logo, and I'm guessing that was just given to whoever made this. Everything else is just photography with cheap text.

EDIT: of course based on their companies 'gallery' that seems to be about the best they can do. So it's not like your boss didn't know what he was going to get.

bad part...  not a student...  actual "web designer".  I have to use this thing for at least another year.   As for the pics and test, I was informed that the system/page cannot use anything else.  Kind of strapped into what I can do.

Anyone up for a design project in a year or so?!?

I'd love to do some design work in about a year. I have basically no pro experience, so I might even be able to do it free as a side project thing. I'd love to get the experience, and be able to start to build a portfolio

Just use a site builder if you don't know what you're doing.  This is one of the best I've seen for what it does.

Has anyone seen those commercials for a company that will make your company Facebook page for you. Those always make me laugh my ass off. Not only does facebook not require any HTML, it doesn't allow it! So basically you are paying someone to do simple data entry and tell you what pictures suck too much to put up.
