Well, as we don't seem to have a thread dedicated to my favorite genre, here it is.
Anyone else here love cyberpunk? I mean, blade runner, neuromancer, mirrorshades, 2020.
Anything in any medium in the genre. What is your favorite?

I like the girls, does that count? >.>
I'm a big fan of the weapons as well, but no movie really sticks out to me.

I am a fan of the concept, and most of the themes that go with it, but have yet to find anything in the field that jumps out at me.
It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

Go check out blade runner, neuromancer (and the rest of the sprawl trilogy), ghost in the shell, akira, snow crash, bridge trilogy, robocop, matrix, shadowrun, hackers, uplink: hacker elite, ergo proxy, do android dream of electric sheep, mirrorshades anthology etc. if you are interested
EDIT: Spleen: Yes, yes it does.

I have seen Blade Runner, and read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (the basis for Blade Runner I believe).
I have also seen Robocop, I own all of the movies, for better or worse.
The Matrix Trilogy, and Animatrix are also on my movie shelf.
Ghost In the Shell is on my list of things that I have wanted to watch for a while, so is Akira I think.
I will say that I hate hackers.
I just, hate it, so much.
It makes me sad inside, and sometimes out.

Go! Now!
Blade runner is arguably the greatest science fiction film ever.
(I would personally put it around third, but meh)

The only one I saw so far is Robocop and Total Recall, what other ones should I check out?

Go check out blade runner, its basically the definitive cyberpunk film. If you like anime, then ghost in the shell and akira are both great too.

Cyberpunk fans unite. Blade Runner is my favorite film.
Another favorite is Buckeroo Banzai, an old film - but worth seeing if you have not.
I'm actually hoping for recommendations on GRAPHIC NOVELS that are cyberpunk.
I'm currently into the MONKEY ROOM graphic novels, which are cyberpunk, getting into collective intelligence over the internet and all kinds of crazy stuff.
The first chapter of Monkey Room is actually free on amazon right now, so you might snap it up: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J4WSBAQ

Does Cyber City Odeo 808 count? 'Cause I've watched that like, 20 times.

It's been long time since I've watched cyberpunk. I've seen The Matrix, Serial Experiments Lain, Ghost in the Shell, and there was a character on X named Satsuki who added a cyberpunk element to the series. I've heard of Blade Runner, but never got a chance to watch it.

Recently started playing Dues Ex: Human Revolution. Is that technically cyberpunk?

Check out akira. Incredible cyberpunk epic. I think there was quite a few robocop comics as well.
Actually, there are a lot of things if you look at manga. Ghost in the shell might have something.

Am I the only person who didn't like Akira?

the movie or the manga?

If anyone's looking for cyberpunk games, Shadowrun Returns is pretty damn awesome.
“Shimatta! Bare… nan no koto kashira?”
Posted 29 March 2014 - 09:11 PM
isn't it great?
Posted 30 March 2014 - 05:04 PM
The movie specifically, although I strongly suspect that I would have no patience whatsoever for the manga.
