So I know people on here have an extreme love for League, and I've recently started playing Dota 2 thanks to a friend who bought the game and got like 5 free codes for the game. Anyone else play it? I've fallen in love with it just because its so awesome (in my opinion).

For those who do play, whats your favorite character to play as? Or character type (i.e. carry, support, ect.) I've been playing as Leshrac and he has become my main extremely fast. He overall is just an awesome character (again in my opinion). But please tell me your thoughts, I'm still extremely new to the game and am learning the ropes so if anyone can give me advice that would be awesome.

P.S: I went inactive for awhile do to school and work but now school is coming to a close so I should be on more, hopefully.

Haha, I fricken HATE when I have to fight the skeleton king! He's so annoying!

Most characters are kind of squishy until level 6.

I've been trying to play it. Hard to get used to considering how much LoL I play though. Most notably, why the fuck can't I hold the right mouse button to continue moving?

Lina (or whatever her name is) is my best character though. She feels pretty much like a carbon copy of Brand from LoL though. Similar to how that orc thing with the small dude riding it is basically Nunu.

I started playing Dota back in like 2005. Still love it. Dota 2 is fantastic. Not sure whos my favorite is, but I'm more of a intelligence and strength hero guy. I like to tank, or support. hmm always had Harbinger as my alltime favorite, havn't played him in awhile now. But the one that i'm best with and is my favorite in Dota 2 is Batrider.

Well I mean obviously I know the basics, the stuff that crosses over from LoL. But the spells are so much different that I can never tell when someone is in danger or makes a good or bad choice.

Also the pro match interface seems less intuitive than LoLs, it doesnt seem like you have enough information at one time to know who is winning at a glance. They always seem to need to switch tabs on the side or top to get the full picture.

Since I played only like 5-10 heroes and only around 20 games I can just say that AA is my favorite until now. His ultimate is fun. That's the only reason

Well, DoTa is the kind of game that you're going to get seriously addicted to if you have patience to learn the basics. Of course it was easier before when there weren't 107 heroes in the pool, but luckily enough most AP games stick to some 50 popular choices.

Consider playing heroes like Lich, Tidehunter, Abaddon, Bounty Hunter, Zeus, Warlock, Witch Doctor, Treant, because they're all easy and are semi/full support heroes that just need to hit a chain of abilities in teamfight and occasionaly buy wards/couriers etc. to do a decent enough job. Pay attention to enemy heroes, click on them when you're dead to read their abilities, once you figure out the basic mechanics you'll quickly notice that it's just '200 dmg + slow' or '150 dmg + stun/dot' for most part. Learning everything properly takes many, many matches but once you see how much you've improved over the days you'll be hooked. And hopefully not by a russian pudge.

After a lengthy conversation me and a friend [He likes DotA, I lean more towards League] managed to come up with the main underlying difference between DotA and most other mobas.

League [and this new wave of mobas] are more accessible for new players with fairly simple champs and mechanics, while DotA is more of a "way of life", where you need tons of forehand knowledge to even be on the same level as casual players.

Sadly, that lack of accessibility will probably keep DotA from ever becoming a huge game like WoW or League. I'm not saying DotA is inferior to either, but its lack of accessibility will always keep potential players at bay.

This is something Valve and the DotA team are already working on, though, with a fairly straightforward tutorial system, but IMO the tutorial really needs an overhaul. The first tutorial is literally you watching the comp play for 5 minutes while it explains simple stuff like "Killing the enemy is good", "Enemy towers hurt", and "Try to destroy their base". All stuff any gamer would probably gather from just looking at the damn map.

I never was really good with Dota 2 but I play league quit a bit and my friends were the ones who taught me. Of course they weren't the best at teaching I ended up getting good from playing with my other friends who are all really good gamers. I'm really happy about this week because I want to learn about Dota and one of my friends has over 1k games under his belt. So hopefully I will eventually do oplay dota more.
