Hi everyone,

I need a new sci-fi series that is not too violent, not much sex, contains good morals and/or has exciting plots that force you too watch more.

We love:

Star Trek: Voyager, DS9, Next Gen, some Enterprise, but no original (Mom and sister think they are too sexist :( and boring :o ) (I couldn't believe it)

Star Wars

Terra Nova

Doctor Who

Currently enjoying Merlin

We tried:

Firefly (Parents hated sex in 1st episode)

Battlestar Galactica (new version) (Killing the baby)

I know this is an odd assortment, I would like to try Firefly and Battlestar again, but maybe alone, or suggest a good episode to start with.

Any suggestions are helpful,

Mycroft

p.s. these are only the series's I can remember at the moment.

I see Stargate is missing from this list
Also I quite enjoy Sanctuary, atleast the first season(that's all I seen so far!). Although like Merlin, I thought it went under Fantasy rather than Sci-fi, but meh

And definately watch Firefly, it's awesome.

Second Firefly, it is the best thing in the world!

The lost room I found quite interesting, has some violent aspects but I don't recall it being too heavy on it. No sex that I can remember.

If the sex scene in firefly was too much for you then I don't suggest battlestar gallactica it has a few of those in it if I recall correctly.

Blade Runner. It is kind of violent, but one of my all time favorite movies.

Thanks everyone!

NEW UPDATE: I would like it to be on netflix, although not required. Also I like instant play, but we do get discs.

Silver-Rose: We have tried Star-Gate, but I think we tried a bad episode. I am confused with there series's, If you suggest a better starting episode.

Thanks for the reviews, I would still like to have as many options as possible to try.

Start with the Movie

Probably "Window of Opportunity" in SG-1 is the best episode to start with, but begin with the movie at the very least if you're not going to watch them in succession.

Starting with the motion picture is best, gives you context through atleast the first season of SG-1.

The first hour long episode there are breasts and killing but it gets more friendly over time and it's pretty much as sappy as Star Trek is.

Really, if you are going to watch the franchise, you really need to start with SG-1 because they make references back to it in Universe and the episodes overlap in Atlantis.

Pretty much this.

I also strongly support Stargate as a good franchise to watch, especially if family friendly is your goal.

You should also check out a show called The 4400.

Here is a link to the IMDB page:

http://www.imdb.com/...9564/?ref_=sr_1

It is also pretty family friendly, while also being a very cool concept.

A few others that pop to mind are Supernatural and Haven.

Supernatural can get kind of bloody, and isn't exactly sci-fi per se.

Haven is decent enough and feels like a Stephen King novel in T.V. show form.

It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.
