How do I get my profile picture (which is a gif) to play correctly? Just adding it didn't work (I used a link, does downloading it and then uploading it work?)

It's probably too large. .gifs don't play properly if they're resized.

Mine is originally 100x100, which obviously seems to work. I didn't realize if they're resized, they won't work, though.

I found a different image for myself, but I'm sure others will be wanting a solution too.
Mine was much more wide than tall, so that explains it.

This. 150px square are smaller. There's also a size limit I implemented that I don't remember exactly, probably around 500k/bIt's probably too large. .gifs don't play properly if they're resized.

To be honest, obnoxiously busy .gif images get kind of annoying any way, if it's only a small movement like Sushi Kitten's is all right but I've seen some horrible forums where everyone has a .gif in their avatar and signature and it's just eye watering not to mention that it can slow down the speed of the forum. The forum I've been on for the longest time has a complete carpet ban on them which I think is a good idea really, at the expense of freedom.

I think most modern browsers will stop playing GIFs out of sight if it causes performance issues. Oh, I didn't know that. I don't think my Chrome browser doesn't do that, but I have no idea what version I have.

Chrome doesn't stop playback. I often notice, especially with lengthy .gifs, I usually have to wait for it to go back to the beginning to see what's actually happening.

Are you sure? When multiple same GIFs are on a page (ie, someones signature) I've noticed the playback on some of them stops. o-o;

Definitely. It's why tumblr lags like crazy for me.

Maybe it was a chrome bug at the time, but I am 100% positive when flippy had the eye patch guy giving someone the bird and had posted on multiple pages playback on non-visible ones stopped and would kind of lag to start back up when they came back into view.
