Spleen's birthday has given me an idea:
how about a person's title (Kilobyte/byte/exabyte/etc) is changed on the day of their birthday to 'It's my birthday!' or something like that.
It would be a rather nice way to remind us that it's someone's birthday.
There could also just be a complete new line below the title stating that it's their birthday, so that everybody can still see their title.

It might also be an idea to change the welcome sub-forum into 'welcomes and birthdays'. Just a thought, that way we won't have to make a topic in Everything Else when someone's DOB rolls around.
