$30 A4's. Makes it that much easier to have super cheap HTPCs.

APU makes me think of that Indian guy from the Simpsons

Nice! I love my A6 - plays most games alone better than I did with a Phenom X4 Black + 8800GTS

Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Yeah, the A6 system I build of Jaz seems to work really well, he's run all kinds of stuff on it with the overclock I put on it, I hope to build and benchmark a new A10 soon as well.

I've heard rumors they might also back out of the desktop processor market entirely, sticking to their fairly successful APU's in laptops.

They don't want to compete with intel, but I doubt they will completely stop making desktop parts, especially APUs

if they tried to back out due to profit issues, intel would throw them a bunch of money (again).

hell AMD did have to assist Intel when the AMD64 chips first came out, and stomped anything intel had into the ground.

I mean, being an american company, they are subject to antitrust laws, and it would be in their benefit to help AMD than it would be to get torn apart in anti-monopoly court cases forcing them to split up.

the Ideal solution would be for AMD to get rid of a bunch of their useless staff, and bring in some properly trained, talented staff to take their place and make them a profiting/thriving company. less flops like the FX chips where as well. I mean, when you claim your best CPU of a new range is going to demolish the i7, and you end up coming out with about 5% performance increase (in two or three benchmarks) and 10-15% less performance (in almost every other benchmark) compared to the previous line of processors your making, there's a serious issue somewhere, either engineering, or marketing.

EDIT: thought I should add.
MANY people are shying away from AMD (and even myself, always been a huge fan of AMD/ATI) due to terrible drivers.
AMD catalyst, for example, the last few versions have just had issue after issue after issue. Not to mention piss poor quality Open Source drivers for the linux/BSD/other open source community.

Honestly all AMD needs to do to be a powerhouse again is provide decent OSS drives to the linux/bsd community, but they wont.

Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

At the low price points, absolutely. It's hard to beat an APU for the price right now.
