What's your favorite? Mine was the N64, I loved playing games like Golden Eye and Perfect Dark on it. The controller style was awesome for shooter games.

I think in durability nothing beats an NES and its games. My personal favourite back in the days was the megadrive/genesis, today I tend more to SNES.

Also the NES must be the most emulated hardware on this planet... I think even modern public toilets can play NES games. :D

snes most likely. wasted many an hour on that machine. so awesome. legend of zelda, mario kart, street fighter 2, mortal kombat, final fantasy... so many good games in that era.

used to be able to wipe the floor with people with reptile and cabal >.> that's one thing i hate about the newer MK games, they changed reptile so much. and they took his invisibility away.

Old school is a pretty wide field.

I'd have to go with N64 or SNES. Basically, it went like this: Atari dominated it's time. Then Nintendo created the NES and made me believe it would be the king of gaming for all time. After many beautiful years, somebody made the Wii and PC offered to host my gaming while Nintendo had it's head up it's ass.

I think there was a 360 in there somewhere but that's just for Rocksmith now.

360: Captain Akuto

SNES is the best retro console for me. I had a Genesis when it came out. Never got the SNES until the emulator was available in the early 200's. I'm still having a blast playing all the games I missed out on when they were new. Best retro console I physically owned? N64, hands down. I played it so much I actually wore out the joystick on a couple controllers.

I liked the Sega Saturn but I think I am the only one to do so. The N64 was also a very big favorite of mine. I spent a lot of my childhood playing Super Mario and Donkey Kong. I never got into shooters though.

Is PS1 too late? That was my first ever console, but I got it really late, like 2005. Still in tip top condition though, as of December 2011 any way.

Nope, on par with the 64.
I had a PS1 as well, I really enjoyed a lot of games on it.

I've never actually beaten a Zelda game. >.> I did play a lot of OoT though. Most of my 64 time was spent shooting at friends.

No to both of those. >.>
Remember, I didn't get a computer until 2003, and my first console around that time too.
