Got my hands on it

Pretty fun, kinda bland, run of the mill Unreal engine gameplay

RPG elements will probably help flesh out the final game, it was pretty restricted. Looked like there was going to be 4 main classes, Scout, Assault, Logistics, and Heavy.

Calling in vehicles was easy, fast, and free. You make a request and choose a location, and then wait in a queue. Kinda shitty to call down a dropship for someone to take off with it though.

Combat was... messy. As expected of the Unreal Engine, but the gunplay was pretty much whoever brought the biggest gun, or tank. All the weapons have pretty good range.

Sniping was impossible, aiming down the scope made it bob for like 5 seconds, and then hitting targets was impossible at long range, with how fast the units move. I shot a tank with the anti-tank rifle, but it didn't do much.

The pre-game lobby actually being a lobby you can walk around, and the objective being a giant ship in the air you could see and shoot at were about the most unique things as of playing, but there was info for alot of fun stuff, like portable spawns and whatnot.

You can get unlimited access by buying the Mercenary Pack DLC for the game, but it's $20, while the game will be free on release.

That sounds pretty neat. How do you go about getting into the beta?

You can either go to the dust514 beta website

http://www.dust514.com/

or, on playstation, download and install Playstation Home, and go to the dust514 planet. Play a game of Conquest, watch all the videos, and go to the recruitment booth and you'll receive a beta code, if there are any remaining.

Or, open Playstation Store, do a search for Mercenary dust 514, and buy the $20 mercenary pack, which gets you unlimited access, a couple dropsuits and gadgets i think, and Aurum [in game currency you get from money cards] when the game goes live.

Been playing with unlimited beta access.

It's gotten buggier as they've added features, not a big surprise but it's almost becoming unplayable.

They've shifted from small beta period codes to unrestricted beta codes, which usually is a sign that the game is going to be released soon

I'm sitting on a couple codes myself.

The in-game market is also showing a serious preference for Aurum [in game credits paid for with real-world money], Aurum items are more powerful, with more features, less weight/CPU/etc, and lower level requirements. You also have to buy an item that costs Aurum to use the main lobby chat, which kinda blows, and it only lasts for a week to a month, depending on how much you spend.

Currently $20 gets you 5000 Aurum, while $2 gets you 400 Aurum. Which atm is enough to buy just about everything, but the limited use will make sure that players who use them as a core strategy will be paying for it [literally] in the long run.

It's alot more fleshed out, now, the skills are actually WORTH getting, although the system they use is a little counter-intuitive unless you have played EVE [I spend most of my cash for a Vehicle Control skill, only to realize that I needed Pilot skill instead.]

Encountered a new glitch

Buying certain items causes an internal error and disconnects you. When you reconnect you are out the money you spent on the item, and you don't have the item.

Also, there is no bug report button, which kinda defeats the purpose of the beta >.>
