Coconut woman was halfway at the waist. Alligator mouth for legs.

Why did Ariel wear a seashell bra?

I'm not sure how to respond to the first part. As far as the last question... because it's cute and because parents would have been concerned if she was drawn topless.

Wow. That's weird. I was going to start a new thread, but since this one is about the Little Mermaid, I guess I'll ask here. What does everyone else think about Disney's decision to cast Halle as Ariel in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid? I for one think it's a good idea, but I really hope she dyes her hair red for the part.

I am tentatively hyped. If it weren't for the track record of garbage fire live-action remakes, I would be very excited for this. I wonder who'll be Ursula.

I think it's good that it will help end the stereotype that black people can't swim. The only issue I can think of is which Ariel we will see more of at Disneyland and Disneyworld.

Mister Sympa, I'm not sure if you were being serious or if you were just pretending to not know, but it's very common. I have also heard that stereotype many many times. Other stereotypes you may not know about black people include not being able to surf and not being able to play hockey. Most, if not all of these come from the fact that a lot of black people have flat feet. I have met plenty of black people who could swim in my lifetime, so it's definitely not true.

I was being completely serious; I had never heard that in my life. That's the dumbest shit I've ever heard. Racist bullshit stereotypes are the actual stupidest load of cold wank.

Oh yeah. This video is worth watching: https://m.youtube.co...h?v=KIHPgpLRXIw The same group also tackles other stereotypes, such as "latinas are the best kissers", "all black guys are good at basketball", and "white people have no rhythm", etc.

I don't... need a video proving that those stereotypes are bullshit, tho. Like, it blows my mind to think about people even taking them seriously.

I can see that, but their videos are still entertaining to watch. Some of them are pretty funny too. As far as the live-action Disney movies, I haven't seen any of them. I just didn't want to watch anything from the same company who killed Star Wars and Marvel.

I don't have a problem with other races being in Disney movies, but Ariel's race has already been established as white. I think they should have casted a black person as Sebastian or Ursula. Ariel, on the other hand, would have been a better fit for Bella Thorne.

I would kinda like to see a version of Ariel that would remind me of my childhood, so for now, as the movie is not even out and I have not seen it, I think I would like a white actress to play her. If the movie is good, though, I might end up not minding the actual choice.

Soooo it doesn't matter if it's bad if she's white, but it has to be good if she's black?

I think it's more a case of if they change it for racial inclusion and it still winds up being awful, all that happens is Halle Bailey finally gets to star in something worse than Last Holiday. If they kept Ariel white all that would happen is the actress there would also finally star in something worse than [one of their bad movies]. Personally I just don't see the point in changing the formula of a story that is almost two hundred years old. Ariel was white in Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale back in 1837, after all. And Disney does have a habit of changing fairy tale stories to fit their social narratives and also however they can earn the most money from consumers. i.e. the original version of Snow White wouldn't have been a very good kid flick.

Also they're genderswapping characters because... reasons? Scuttle the seagull is now female and also a diving bird instead of a seagull. Unsure why. Scuttle is also being voiced by a singer with such amazing contributions to music as "My Vag" and "Queef". Yikes.

Also Harry Styles is playing Prince Eric, because after the death of One Direction we need more of him, apparently.

First of all, 100% agreed on that yikes. Jesus, Disney, why.

Also, I don't understand how changing the race of a character changes the "formula" of the story. Like, if they shift the story around or added characters or subtracted plot points or changed the setting. Picking a different-looking main character, who, by the way is the same person, really isn't a huge change, as far as I can tell.

If it ends up sucking, then, for fuck's sake, Disney can suck a fat one on their "inclusion" shit. I'm already sick to death of their live action shit and I'm holding a small amount of hope for this and a bit more for Mulan. I am also on standyby to have my small hopes be dashed.

^ As funny as that is... she wears seashells, fae. Not starfish. I do wonder how they will get seashells to stay on for the live action version though.
