What antivirus software do you use and why?

I hope you use some kind of antivirus at least. I know someone that didn't and his computer was completely destroyed on the inside due to severe, mass infection. He told me the pop-ups and having to scan annoyed him so he just quit using it. Then one day he was doing something on "Facebook" and bam! Virus. I put Facebook in quotes because I think it was actually porn, but I'm not 100% sure.

I use the free version of Avast! The bootscan option is awesome and to my knowledge no other free antivurs program has such a feature. If there is one please share o.O I used to subscribe to Mcafee, but that shit's expensive!

I have Malwarebytes too, but I don't run them at the same time, of course.

I've never been infected with a virus or worm whilst I've had AVG on both of my laptops, it's worked better for me than Norton. And well, *ehem* it's not like I don't *cough* peruse certain *hack* websites of a low brow nature *cough* on occasion.

Yeah yeah, I grew up on Macs as well and I never got a virus even though I let the norton package expire on any macs I had.The big issue I have with macintosh is compatibility and not in the way you would think, I'm talking backwards compatibility and planned obsolescence many packages that I used to like to run on my macs don't run on Lion due to a lack of a classic machine, or backwards emulation. Any new software doesnt work on the OS system before lion so that means you require two OS's...

My solution was Emulate both systems on a Windows computer and keep my old SL system as a spare computer.

Yeah I have 2 machines, both of which are Snow Leopard. However, I have emulated some of the finer ML features to the level of which it is nearly impossible to distinguish the two on one of my machines. The visual style is the same, I wrote my own Messages application to work with SL, downloaded MacLaunchPad, AirParrot, and other such things which would enable my Mac to run those features while still being able to use the greater SL features. The best advantage to this is because even though I can update, as I recently got a Mac Pro (I am from a upper-class family, but we still don't go buying stuff willy-nilly, this was a gift), I can still update but SL is still the most commonly-used Mac OS and I want to keep that compatibility. The only problem is many of the software is only for L or ML, so I have to rewrite it from scratch/dig through the code for great lengths to best emulate that experience. It's worth it to me, however.

I was an avast! user for some time. A decent A/V if not wanting to shell out the amount for a premium product. I soon moved to a premium product. I also use MBAM (PRO) along with anti-loggers and a cloud based ant-malware product. On-demand scanners are also used when needed.

Layered protection is the best way to go. How users surf the Net is really what allows for intrusions. You can have the best security system to protect anything -but- if you are careless, then a security system will be unable to fully protect them. More often, it is the site that is being attacked at its weakest points and that is how people's information is intercepted. Also, people shouldn't think that their Operating System is immune to malware. Because malware writers eventually find a way. Just look how sophisticated financial malware has become.

Ugh . . .

I use AVG alongside McAfee.  It's a decent carbonation.

I use a student version of McAfee that my university provides. I also run Spybot occasionally.

Norton is a virus, its worse to have norton than to have an actual virus. So I stick with nod32 that I downloaded a long time ago. Virus programs are overrated anyway. I remember all those gamecrack and serialkeys servers that where filled with viruses and pornpop-ups.
