I mentioned having one in another thread, figured I'd save someone the hassle in case they were thinking of getting one.

Long story short, I would not recommend it.

I find that even the small amount of weight added to my phone due to the case is pretty noticeable.

It is extremely difficult to find a quality cover that will fit the new thicker case.

The phone has to be in a pin point position to properly charge or it will not work.

Even then I find that it will glitch out occasionally, reading a full charge when it isn't even close and cutting off the charge to the phone entirely.

I have found my phone warmer to the touch than usual probably 2/10 times when charging which I don't care for.

And honestly, it's much slower than the cord provided probably is, especially if it's a USB 3 charger.

I'm glad I got it, because it was fun to play around with and it's pretty cool to use, but the functionality has a long way to go before it's worthwhile.

The case and charger are both made by Qi.
Perhaps there's other models with better results, but I won't be trying any again personally.

I think once more phones have it built in like the Nexus 4 and 5 did, it will become a better option. It needs to just be a big charging pad you can lay the phone on however, like a mouse pad.

Also, do want mouse with inductive charging mouse pad.

Maybe.

Yeah, cause right now it's about half the size of my phone itself.
I've seen cradles used for charging before but they have to be phone to phone.

That would be incredible.. Especially for our mice.

One of the upgraded versions of my phone (Lumia 800) has this, apparently it's a bit shit though.

Personally, my phone's battery life is good enough that I wouldn't need an extra charger. I just put it on charge when I'm at home and take it off when I go out. It kills the battery life a bit by doing that, but it still can last probably three days >.>

They seem terribly inefficient. The surface area of the pad is likely significantly larger than the area of the phone, therefore a lot of energy is being spent without reaching the phone itself. It's a cool idea but I really don't think it will ever be worthwhile at such a low efficiency.

I agree whole heartedly.

It really isn't worth it.

The ones at the airport are legit. You place your iphone on the metal plate and wait. Takes about 30minutes to charge up to a decent amount.

Do you have any clue how much energy that's using? Not a rhetorical question, a legitimate one. I'm curious. If it takes a decent bit over 30 minutes for my phone to fully charge and a wireless pad (aka sending energy to everything on the surface of the pad, including air, not just the phone), could do it quicker, then either they've mastered the efficiency rate by somehow directing all the energy into the correct location or they're wasting an enormous amount of energy. Of course, it's probably still cheaper than bulk purchasing a ton of cords and offering them up for use.

I also work in Home Theater for Target. Every day I'm there, at least 3 customers ask me if we sell wireless phone charges.

"Nah mate, but head upstairs to JB or Dick Smith they have em"

Don't know why I keep that job ... well, the money ... yeah that's it.

There are phone charging 'docks' around the place in shopping centers, airports, and a few public outdoor (undercover) spots in Aus. Mainly just the large capitals. I haven't seen the wireless one's yet, just the ones with 15 different cords hanging out

We get our technology about 10 years after the US and Europe.

Not too sure. Didn't bother reading the specs. There was also another kiosk where you can charge your phone (wired) in a few minutes. But apparently that ruins the battery. Besides, I didn't mind waiting. Have you ever spent 11 hours in an airport before? I'm always at least 5 hours early for my flights :) Even slept overnight in an airport once :)

5 hours?

Why?

I usually go 2 hours and that's much longer than I care for as is.

But one can always hope for a cavity search to break the monotony of it all.

I remember last year around this time, I volunteered for an open house for the engineering faculty at my university. My classmate and I were showing off our game we made for a class, and right next to us were some senior students who were showcasing their final project, which was based on wireless power. It was super cool but it was only through a very short distance that they could power a small lightbulb wirelessly. You could see the limitations of the technology, but the possibilities are still there. (Though tbh most of the visitors were kids and we basically stole the show with our game haha)

I can see technology like that growing. Eventually wireless charging pads will be way better. I can imagine people making tables and counters we can charge our devices on as we eat at the mall or something.

And the best way to charge your device is through the charger it came from, not all chargers are rated the same and your phone will last longer if it's charging at the right Amp rating.

I feel like the power in the air is already available, if we can find a proper way to harness it.

I'm really notorious for missing flights. And Auckland City is bloody huge. Public transportation is unreliable and I dare not drive because the motorway is always congested. Taxis cost a kidney and I would quite simply get lost. I hath my reasons. :)

Damn straight. Not to mention losing hundreds of dollars on missed flights have caused me to be a bit more onto it.

I plan on doing more traveling.  JAPAN, I'M LOOKING AT YOU BABY!!!! Good thing I have no drug convictions otherwise I would be fucked.

I wonder who here on Nerd Forum aren't allowed to leave their country coz of convictions....? Hmmmmmm???
