So an ad just informed me that Rift is F2P till 20 now

It seems that even with WoW's slow decline, it's hard for any MMO's to keep up.

What are your thoughts as to why?

As basement dwellers spend their nights clicking away casting healing touch in raids they see a certain player that catches their eye.
They start the courting process by combing through their slick greasy hair and plucking out the mashed bits of doritos and poptarts from their cleavage (both the men and women) and beards (both the men and women).
They put on their wizard hats to get the inspiration they need to overcome their shyness and they take that first leap.
All the way over Orgrimmar, through the vast Chuck Norris Jokes in the Barrens.. Staying clear of Stonetalon because really, who quests there anymore?
And behold, another lonely soul just like them..With a want and need to be loved and accepted; neckbeard or no neckbeard.
Off into the distance you can hear the gentle cooing of a bird near the horizon (that or a gnome getting eaten by a shark).
And SUDDENLY wow wedding.
Then they spend every waking moment together.
Fishing for deviant fish, skinning the wildlife, tea-bagging Alliance..
Until one fateful day, they decide to meet in person.
They figure in order to make a good first impression, they must don their finest.
He wearing his "I fuck on the first date" shirt, she wearing her "I beat anorexia" shirt they run (more of a waddle really) into each others sweaty Michelin man arms.
After getting kicked out of the airport for savagely mentally scarring everyone within a 2 mile radius they find a quiet place in whence to consummate their relationship.
Like two beached humpback whales they toss and turn and roll, then they take a ten minute sammich break and resume thrusting and rocking trying to find each other in glorious fold after glorious fold..
FINALLY, SUCCESS!
And after 15 seconds of pure bliss they fall asleep in each others neck fat and dream of days to come.
Wow seems so futile now; before as some kind of second life to lead it is quickly replaced by sweet sweet chubby nerd love.
So it falls into the background as all childhood games must do, and becomes nothing more than a beautiful memory of many for the two (or at least until their hearts give out due to sex snacking/diabeetus).

That or the players finally figured out porn subs are cheaper per month and it cuts out the middle man.

That's awesome.

What I meant however was, why has no company created a MMO with WoW's level of success?

I imagine it's like with most things.

People see the success of something and try to replicate it.
However, no matter how hard they try they most will never be able to do so.
Wow being an exception, making it even harder for their success as they are trying to replicate a duplicate.

Kind of like when they make a clone of a clone of Brian in Family Guy and he's all derpy.

My two cents, those are them.

I just imagined a WoW clone with derp graphics.

So did I as I typed it.

Then I realized it always has them, Alliance.

Poor alliance players.

It's ok.

They get super comfy shoes and badass helmets.

And floors, don't forget they get floors.

2 days later but I have the answer to WoW.
Many don't care, but there's this game called Guild Wars. Pay for the game, never pay a monthly fee.
But fuck Guild Wars. Guild Wars 2 is on the way! Yay! I turned into a fan boy and got the pre-order. Just gotta wait for it now.
