#56714 School Wifi

When I was in high school the Internet speed was pretty much non-existant....

When I was in high school we had to walk 20 miles to school, uphill, both ways.

Sounds like you might want to think about what is most important.  Making money or doing what you like.  Consider this,

The average pay for a nurse reported on the webs is 50 - 70 thousand dollars per year.  Likely that you'll see the bottom half of that range.

When you consider the cuts made by taxes, social/health programs and 401k/retirement... You're looking at even less.

Meanwhile, you can potentially make that same amount of money tax free in cash selling coffee and pastries at a well placed kiosk/cart somewhere in high foot traffic location in a college or business park.

My brother started his own restaurant and is easily clearing 100k annually and now has a million dollar restaurant.

My mother started her own business cleaning homes for 'high end' clients with large homes and a lot of money, who generally don't trust your generic house cleaning services like 'Molly Maids'.  She has also cleared 100k annually by working A LOT.

Neither of them finished high school traditionally, both got GEDs.

I also avoided college and used the military to get experience and certifications required for a getting my technical job.  I now make good money and enjoy my work.

Really, I think you should focus on what you like to do.  If that means avoiding formal education, then go ahead.  I've always believed that if you truly love what you do, and are passionate about it, the money will generally come naturally.

I don't think I'd like the competition for attention. X3

For me, I'd have to be some neo-Greek odyssey type seer where people come and seek me out for knowledge or answers to really insanely deep questions.

There's a large difference in marrying non-blood relatives and blood relatives.
In-breeding fucks up the gene pool and the result is the English royalty.
This is why they used to do blood tests before the happy couple could get a marriage license.
The family tree really should have some branches....

Heh, the family catcus.

#54658 Canadian Apology

Posted by Champion of Cyrodiil on 10 September 2013 - 10:43 AM

  A Canadian Apology

A truly Canadian Apology to the USA... Courtesy of Rick Mercer from This Hour Has 22 Minutes, CBC Television:

On behalf of Canadians everywhere I'd like to offer an apology to the United States of America. We haven't been getting along very well recently and for that, I am truly sorry. I'm sorry we called George Bush a moron. He is a moron but, it wasn't nice of us to point it out. If it's any consolation, the fact that he's a moron shouldn't reflect poorly on the people of America. After all it's not like you actually elected him.

I'm sorry about our softwood lumber. Just because we have more trees than you doesn't give us the right to sell you lumber that's cheaper and better than your own.

I'm sorry we beat you in Olympic hockey. In our defence I guess our excuse would be that our team was much, much, much, much better than yours. I'm sorry we burnt down your White House during the war of 1812. I notice you've rebuilt it! It's Very Nice.

I'm sorry about your beer. I know we had nothing to do with your beer but, we feel your pain.

I'm sorry about our waffling on Iraq. I mean, when you're going up against a crazed dictator, you want to have your friends by your side. I realize it took more than two years before you guys pitched in against Hitler, but that was different. Everyone knew he had weapons.

And finally on behalf of all Canadians, I'm sorry that we're constantly apologizing for things in a passive-aggressive way which is really a thinly veiled criticism. I sincerely hope that you're not upset over this. We've seen what you do to countries you get upset with.

I remember watching this when the episode was new.

I laughed, and laughed, and laughed.

I'm sorry you couldn't keep a Prime Minister in office for more than 3 months (John Turner).  Perhaps your governor general and members of parliament will continue to select great prime ministers for you.

We're sorry that even though you live next door, you come in 2nd place when it comes to US Imports.  While it's nice of you to offer up your softwood lumber, I think it's the least you can do, considering the fact that Canada was the US' largest good export market last year.  Thanks for the lumber, we'll go ahead and give you everything else you need.

Also congratulations on your 1 gold medal last year.  Sorry we didn't notice, we were to busy counting the 46 gold medals we won.

I'm sorry your military capability has been surpassed exponentially by the US since 1812.  Luckily your NATO allies (US?), has been supporting your needs and letting your play along for the past 20 years.  I'm sorry you can't make up your mind whether or not you want to play in the sandbox with the big boys, and that your young boys are dying from crashes in poorly maintained helicopters.

Don't worry about the beer.  The fact is that with 313 million people (8x Canada), someone's bound to buy cheap rice beer.  Fortunately we have quite a few micro breweries maintained within our individual states that go unnoticed on a global scale.  So keep sucking that Labatt Blue band wagon all 34 million of you love. I'll enjoy the variety of choices my neighbors brew this fall.

And finally on behalf of all Americans, your apology for being so cynical is accepted.  It's pretty well known that cynicism stems from reacting to strangers.  We know your isolated up there.  It's cold and you feel alone.  Rest assured, our warm bikini clad beaches are always open to tourism.

#53997 Christian, Atheist, Evolutionist, or Other

Posted by Champion of Cyrodiil on 29 August 2013 - 01:50 PM

I grew up in a Christian military boarding school from age 12-17.  We attended chapel 3 times a week.  Throughout this time I attempted often to read the bible and pray.  Things worked out and sometimes they didn't.  As I have grown older I have become less attuned to the various christian beliefs.  When I was deployed within an islamic nation, it was a very powerful feeling to see hundreds of people bowing and praying to temple music across the city at the same time.  Also classes I have taken in religion and history led me to understand that religion is an extremely old concept. (http://funki.com.ua/...religions-tree/

At this juncture in my life I would say that I believe in the high level concepts of a hybrid of Taoism and Hinduism.  I believe that there is energy that is not measurable on the electromagnetic spectrum.  Life forces if you will.  I also believe that when you do something "Positive" or "Negative" the energy that you put out causes the same kind of energy to come back to you.  However, sometimes i think that what is positive/negative to one person is not necessarily the same for another.  Hence, you must follow your own path/way.

#53808 What are some good DIY projects?

Posted by Champion of Cyrodiil on 27 August 2013 - 11:36 AM

Search for a problem in your life.  Present it, and we shall develop a DIY for it.  If you don't have a problem, then search for something you'd like to have, and/or be capable of!

My personal favorite DIYs that I've performed:

Wrist Blades(spring loaded)

Smoke bombs

Agility training courses

Homemade workout equipment/resistance suits

Sam Axe made smoke bombs from beer cans and bacon grease in the latest season of Burn Notice.
