#112739 Coronavirus Discussion
Posted by Champion of Cyrodiil on 15 March 2020 - 05:09 PM
I think the Coronavirus is a serious issue and was wondering if anyone else on this forum is preparing for quarantine, chaos, etc?
I have:
- GIS Data and Digital Maps of Central Virginia on 8TB RAID1 Synology with Laptop, Property Ownership data, Topology maps, USGS Satellite Imagery, etc. I hope to be able to find all the different kinds of stores, and other offices and retail shops without internet. Also mapping routes.)
- Supplies for Hunting, Security, Communication and Medicine
- Food Pantry List, Refrigerator List, and Freezer List, Ordered by longevity and protein/carb requirements.
- Developing Plans for "Hunkering Down" and "Bugging Out".
- Packing Kits to support aforementioned plans. E.g. 7Km Range VHF Radios, Rugged 25K mAh Power Bank w/ Solar, 5 gal-Gas Can, Portable Gas Powered Generator.
- 4x4 SUV with good ground clearance, V8, full tank of gas, oil change and some tools to work/fix it. Range of about 400 miles.
- Solar Charging Kit, First Aid Kit
- Camping Gear, Tent, Lights, Sleep Systems, Mini-Grill, cups/pots/pans etc.
- 90 Gallons of Fresh water, (80, 5 and 5) (2 People, 45 Days @ 1 gal/day/person.
- 2 Months Pet Food for 1 Cat, 1 Dog. Small Crate for Cat, Special Leash & Leader for Dog (They go straight to SUV with Food in event its time to leave.)
Thinking about it from this perspective... I'm not really a prepper, and I dont plan to have a ton of stuff prepped... but I don't want to just sit around and wait for it all to get worse and be standing there vulnerable in my pajamas either.
Anyone else pulling stuff together? Anything I should consider besides what is listed above? I think I should consider a water filtration kit for 'on the go'. Also I have a books and reading material for training for survival and off grid living. Very detailed and thorough books, more for reference than actual reading.
Also, does anyone actually know anyone personally with this virus yet? I've yet to make text/email/phone contact with anyone personally affected.

I enjoy doing SfM with imagery. I love the experience of seeing the real world in 3D and being able to manipulate it. The industry is growing fast and it is a great way to make 3D content for your purposes. I've been writing a C++ application off and on for about a year that implements some of my favorite open source solutions. Namely, Theia and OpenMVS. Right now it is for work, but I am hoping one day I can release a portion of the user interface as Freeware and then anyone with a camera can create 3D content for game engines, 3d printing, or whatever.
Here is a link to some great resources: http://www.cs.cornel...rojects/bigsfm/
And here is a few old videos I made using animation tools to rotate the model along it's Z-axis in Blender:
This was captured at a sculpture park in St. Louis with my Samsung Galaxy s7
This was captured from YouTube video uploaded. The user recorded their neighborhood with a DJI Phantom 3.
I hope maybe this topic creates a place where people can discuss and share ideas around 3D modeling from photography and video. Also known as Photogrammetry.

Me: "You left the mouse finger over top of the UI controls." (Leaves buttons showing on full screen)
Her: ***moves mouse three inches to the right, just perfectly over the slider and then stares at the screen angrily as the controls do not fade***
Me: "It's still on the slider. You have to move the cursor off of all the control panels for it to fade."
Her: "I KNOW! You don't have to be so condescending."

Windows is the shit and has been a huge contributor to computing, internet and nerd-dom throughout the decades. If you weren't running MSDOS or win3.11/nt back in the day, then you were probably old and doing something school or work related with a PC.
