#36050 Star Wars Petition

Posted by Affray on 06 January 2013 - 04:49 PM

Princess Leia more than fills the quota for strong female main characters in Star Wars.
There are also: Depa Billaba Stass Allie Aayla Secura Adi Gallia Bultar Swan Jocasta Nu Yaddle Bariss Offee Luminaria Unduli Shaak Ti
All female Jedi, the first column of three are on the Jedi Council.
And that is just the Jedi, there are many non-Jedi women in the universe that pull some weight.
Just because the main hero is a man doesn't mean women aren't integral.

That being said, I have noticed time and time again that feminism is the belief that equality can be achieved by focusing on the interest of one side.
If Star Wars ended up with a female lead, sure why the hell not.
If not, who cares.
If for some magical reason a female lead was cast and it was because of a petition to make it that way, that would only sully the intentions of all feminists in that regard. You can't have your cake and eat it too as they say.

Women have plenty of heroes.
Perhaps they should be appreciated instead of trying to bend the world around what women think they don't have.

#36045 Prometheus (Aliens Prequel)

Posted by Affray on 06 January 2013 - 02:50 PM

I wouldn't say it is controvercial, and if ti is we need to find more important things to fret about.
That being said, I think that the movie as a whole was quite unnecessary.
I fail to see the point of it at all.
It was cool enough in its own rights, so why bother trying to tag it in to the whole Alien franchise, especially in such a rushed last minute plot twist to make it that way.

#35611 About to order $1500 of security cameras

Why not one big security camera that is worth $1500?
You can put it on the roof and make your building look like a super villain's lair.

I must agree with you. WWE is just my weekly soap. I'm more intrigued by stunts and acrobats as opposed to the horrible storylines. In fact one of my favorite superstars (Kurt Angle) was an actual wrestler who won a gold medal at the 96 Olympic games. Aside from that everything else on that show is just plain horrible ;)

There are a few of them that have stepped away from all that silly WWE business and done some actual fighting in competitions, so the potential is there.
They all probably make a tonne more money doing all that terrible theater in their ring to want to go and actually fight though.

My dad had a friend who has watched wrestling since he was young and has it in his head that it is the real deal.
Like these hulking gorillas are in there actually beating each other up and that it isn't just a grande show.
And I quote:

"I don't like all that boxing or MMA stuff. The fights only last a few minutes most times and they don't really make it very entertaining.
There is also like six months between when a guy fights, so if you like a certain fighter you only see him fight twice in a year.
WWE lets me watch my favourite fighters duke it out twice a week, way better.
Plus they get to use chairs and ladders and sometimes fight in a cage, which is way better."

I almost couldn't even type that without puking in my mouth a little.

Wrestlers are supreme atheletes, no doubt about it.
They are just super fit soap opera stars for white trash hillbillies to watch while their wives watch the actual soaps.
There are a few that actually are trained in some style of true blue fighting, but they aren't doing any of the business when playing their WWE roles.

#35243 Dragonball Multiverse

Posted by Affray on 27 December 2012 - 12:10 PM

Apparently I forgot this thread existed way back in November.
I also like that it captured the zippy nature of their fighting styles.

Also, since it hasn't been stated in a while, everyone should check out Dragonball Multiverse.
If you are a fan of the shows you will flip shits over this site and the comic within.

Also also, I stitched a kick ass fusion design not too long ago and Dragonball fans need to see it.

#35207 Stained Glass

Posted by Affray on 26 December 2012 - 10:14 AM

There is a lot of Link stained glass for some reason.
Probably because green glass is fantastic.

I think that any classic video game character would make for a decent subject as far as stained glass goes.

Anything Okami would look fantastic.

The art style used really suits stained glass as well.

#34846 Vampires: Are they still relevant?

Posted by Affray on 19 December 2012 - 07:32 PM

You bring up some interesting points.
Though I do not agree that werewolves are all about anger.
More like blood lust and freedom from inhibitions.

I would say that vampires are still relevant today.
They may not hold as much fear or power as they once did, but that is only because they have been mainstream for a long, long time.
We have become so accustomed to the concept of a person risen from the dead who needs to feed on blood (usually human) to sustain itself that it is no longer a spooky tale about a monster in the shadows, it is common place.

Picture yourself in a zombie apocalypse.
I bet you aren't dead in your own mind, even though you almost certainly would be.
You are probably running train on a few zombies that are shambling toward you trying to eat your face and traversing the wasteland toward your next refuge.
This is because we have all been jammed so full of zombie content that they are no longer all that scary to us.
We have convinced ourselves that zombies aren't all that terrible and that we could probably deal with them should we need to.
Same goes for vampires, only we hit that level of objective irrelevance long ago.
That being said, they are still relevant in a sense that they are a fairly regular part of our world now.
It would be like if people just stopped putting elves in movies and books.
No one really cares about something until it is no longer there.

#34805 Some Diabolical_Jazz music.

Posted by Affray on 19 December 2012 - 12:53 PM

That non-metal song you have there sounds like something that should be played in the background of a Red Hot Chili Peppers song.

Awesome! Great to see some finger work going on.

That sir, is exactly what she said.

#33939 HAH! I'm new!

Posted by Affray on 14 December 2012 - 03:05 PM

Bears are more closely related to gods than cats, but I have seen dogs purr before.
Weirded me right out, but it happened.

EDIT: I accidentally typed "gods" instead of "dogs", but I won't change it because it is still true.
