#107896 TIL there is robot pro wrestling.

Posted by SushiKitten on 08 June 2017 - 06:29 PM

I saw a gif of this earlier this week!

I wanted to learn how to make a biped robot from scratch a few years ago. I even have the plans somewhere. You'd need a good few servos (one for each joint), a microcontroller, good set of batteries, probably a bluetooth or wifi adapter, and you'd want a bunch of sensors so it can interact with the outside world. I could see it getting expensive, especially if you want to make it look good.

I think the really hard part would be programming it. Getting the servos to work together to create walking would probably be difficult. Even those robots do a crab walk instead of a normal one. Balance is hard.

I still want to do this someday lol. I forget a lot of the hardware I've learned in school though... I've become a soft, squishy Java developer.

#107894 Happy birthday SushiKitten

Aww thank you guys! <3

I know I appear every couple months but I love and care about you all.

I didn't get much loot! My nan gave me $50 and I need a new pair of jeans. The joys of adulthood :P

#107846 I need a cheap hobby

I hosted a Heboconwith a friend at a local convention last month. We had an exhibition match at the end and my robot looked like this:

Spoiler

The base was a solar powered gardening decoration where the butterfly spins around. I taped a fly swatter to it hoping it'd flop around like it was trying to squish the butterfly. Aptly named "It's a feature, not a bug"

Sadly there wasn't enough sunlight in the room for the motor to work, so when it came time to battle my robot just sat there. My friend's robot fell off the edge though, so I still won :P

#104704 U.S. presidential election 2016

Posted by SushiKitten on 15 November 2016 - 06:24 PM

I left my sleepy Canadian town to visit the big apple.. on election day. It started turning in his favour just as I got into my hotel room. Somewhere around midnight I decided it was too depressing to continue watching alone and went to the hotel bar to watch it with everyone else.

Luckily New York isn't like what they show in TV (I was a tiny bit scare of riots on the street or something), and the protests, while existed, weren't too close to my hotel. I'll totally come back and explore more of your country if you guys don't self implode. Be careful everyone and I hope you're all safe as this goes on. ❤

#100255 THE DEPRESSION THREAD

Posted by SushiKitten on 13 May 2016 - 03:53 AM

I broke up with my boyfriend of 5 years, he moved out last weekend. I got a great job with great pay right out of university, he can't keep a minimum wage job for more than 4 months and never put any effort into getting an education. He tried near the end, but it was only to "keep up with me", as if me being successful was a bad thing. I got sick of sleeping alone until 3am when he finally got off the computer to go to bed. I started having nightmares that 5 years down the road, I'd be coming home from a long day to see him sitting on the computer, not even showered yet. I'd be paying for his lazy lifestyle The worst part was when I said I didn't want to be with him anymore, he didn't try to change my mind or argue, he just moved out, as if 5 years meant nothing to him.

I really struggled with it until about Monday, when I started to realize what a shitty boyfriend he was. He never tried to make it right when we were fighting, he basically ignored me until I confronted him. I even forgave him for shit he never properly apologized for. I started realizing he always said he loved me and that I was the most important thing, but his actions completely contradicted that. He'd do things he knew I was uncomfortable with, he never confided in me or was very good emotional support. He never put any effort into the relationship, of course it was easy for him to leave.

What's nice is all of my friends told me they hated him and only put up with him because of me, so that makes me feel both loved and like I made the right choice. And now I don't have to justify him being an asshat to everyone.

I think I shrink into myself too much. I should try to reach out to people more.

#99664 why are you happy?

I get my iron ring tonight, a ring every engineering student in Canada gets after completing their degree. I'm so proud of myself.

Also where did all the bots come from?

All I can think of is that one scene from The Fox and the Hound with the woodpecker:

#96451 John Oliver's Opinion on today's Canadian Election

Posted by SushiKitten on 19 October 2015 - 11:46 AM

So today's election day for us Canadians, and it's caused a bit of headlines outside the country for a few reasons, the big one being our current PM is hated by nearly everyone 50 and under.

John Oliver had some things to say about it, if you don't think Canadian politics is interesting just watch the video.

What Oliver doesn't say is Harper, while stating strongly that marijuana is worse than tobacco, has been campaigning with Rob Ford (the famous crack-cocaine addicted Toronto mayor) the past week (though he has been reported to have said behind the scenes that Ford and his brother are 'losers')

Anyway, all I've seen on facebook the past three weeks has been encouragement to vote, even I've gotten in on it. If Harper has done anything, he's encouraged people to vote, I feel we'll see a jump in young voter turnout today. I'll be voting in about an hour when I get off work, but man I'm burnt out on politics now.

My new work out routine requires a 15 second plank, it's more like 15 seconds of hell, I need stronger ab muscles, ha.

#96095 Peeple: Literally the worst idea.

Posted by SushiKitten on 02 October 2015 - 06:48 AM

http://www.wired.com...peeple-the-app/

Also this article is interesting. Apparently Peeple was a thing before the app, and it was a pretty useful thing, basically a peephole for your door that you can see using your phone. Now his branding has completely backfired, I feel so bad for the team that created it, haha.

So is it possible to get other information on people on it? Address, phone number, pictures, etc? If not, then who gives a fuck? If the info is only available to those who install the app, who gives a fuck? Sure, it'll be used for malicious things, but they're all things that are much easier to accomplish on [insert social networking site here]. Let the losers have their fun and it'll turn into a barren wasteland soon enough.

At the very least, on most social networking sites you can control your image. You won't have any control on Peeple, they can write whatever they want. Friends/Significant others you have a fall out with could get revenge on you, you could be accused of things that never actually happened (rape, theft, harrassment). Just think of the harassment that goes on on twitter when a celebrity does something that the internet deems "wrong", like Joss Whedon earlier this year. It'll be the same thing but you won't be able to defend yourself and damage control is much more difficult.

In a world where most employers google your name to find your social networks before they consider an interview, imagine the consequences it could have to have horrible reviews, lies, and slander from this website/app show up first.

Thank you. I'm feeling much better now than I was when I wrote that.

And it's funny: I actually did beat the hell out of my pillow and it made me feel better :D

I don't know why but it always works! Haha

#95553 Is Stephen Hawking wrong?

Posted by SushiKitten on 14 September 2015 - 04:32 AM

I know nothing about science, but are there really scientist with religion ? How can they co-mingle them together

Yeah, there are scientists who believe in a god and that the universe is created by that god. Usually to fit those two things together, they have to warp the entire history of the universe, for example saying that humans lived peacefully alongside the dinosaurs.
