Advice on building a PC

23 July 2012 - 08:07 PM

I know another topic like this already exists, and while I found it pretty helpful, it didn't exactly answer all my questions.
I've been trying to save up to build a PC for over three years now, and finally it seems I can make that dream a reality within the next five months.
I've done my research on parts, but I'm not 100% that this is the best I can do with a budget of $900.
I was also not 100% sure that all these parts are compatible, but from what I've read, it seems that they are.

Is there anyway to make this more affordable without sacrificing performance?
Do I need more fans?

By the way, I already have the Ubuntu USB stick, so I don't need to worry about an OS. I'll use my old monitor, mouse and keyboard until I can afford something better. I'm not worried about a DVD drive yet.

I appreciate all suggestions!

Advice on learning Python

19 July 2012 - 04:57 PM

A little while ago (couple years,) I tried to learn Python... I bought one of those books with the animals on it (can't believe I forget what they're called now...) but anyway, it was too difficult for a weak-minded earth mortal such as myself, and so seeking help from my peers (people I met online,) I was told to start smaller.
So I learned HTML, CSS and PHP.

Am I ready for Python yet? What books or tutorials should I use? Or should I try learning something like Java first?
Thanks for any help!

Hello out there!

Hello friends!

Let me try and introduce myself without being too boring....

I'm currently saving money for university and plan on majoring in archeological anthropology.

I love comic books, my favorites are Batman and Watchmen, but I also enjoy superman, x-men, spiderman and a few manga books such as dragonball, cowboy bebop and Bleach.
My favorite comic book artists are Bruce Timm and Dave McKean.
My favorite writers are Paul Dini and Alan Moore

I love watching movies and TV shows, but my all time favorites would be The Matrix, Iron Man, Batman Begins, Futurama and of course Star Trek the Next Generation. Documentries are also fun.

I play a lot of video and computer games, my favorites for PS3 being Arkham City, DC Universe, Uncharted and Tomb Raider Legend.
For computer I play Lord of the rings Online (Riventhor on Evernight!) and Star Trek Online. I sometimes play Dungeons and Dragons online, but not so much anymore.

For music I like The Crystal Method, Daft Punk, Nine inch Nails, The Prodigy, Claude Debussy, Pink Floyd, Tool and the underatted DJ Shoom and Cristie Santu.

I also love science (almost as much as I love history.) My all time favorite book is The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene.

My hobbies include drawing comics, writing fan fiction, learning python, skateboarding and wandering through nature.
I also tend to stare at the night sky a lot.
I've seen a few UFOs in my life and had a few strange encounters with the unexplained, but I'm too skeptical to say it was aliens. I have a few theories, but it could have all been the government or even delusions... mass hysteria? Swamp gass?

I'm also a vegan (damn I miss bacon,) and an I'm an environmentalist.

Hope that wasn't too boring!
