If you are in to Japanese culture type stuff and fiction books you should check out the Lotus War series.
There are three books, Stormdancer, Kinslayer and Endsinger.
It's a diesel punk sort of setting in feudal Japan where they are burning "lotus" as fuel for airships and various machinations.
There is civil war, sword fighting, griffons, and a girl who can talk top animals with her mind.
Super duper worth a looksie, even if you just like reading.
