This thread is gold.

#98978 Nerd and I luv it!

Studying for fun should work to your favor!

After having actually studied for different scenarios I'd say that I'm NOT a fan of studying. But I do like learning! I love knowing things and finding out new information, especially anything related to my interests.

Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy your time here! And there are plenty of nerds about these parts to get to know =)

Good luck, bro.

Because of that post ^^^ I'm now listening to Steampunk. I've never heard of it before viewing this thread tonight.

Fuck I love the internet. This stuff is great.

I like this group for the violins and distortion guitar.

#96185 Giant sexy gaming monitor.

Posted by Big_T on 07 October 2015 - 10:40 AM

34" is huuuge for a PC monitor. Maybe if all I did on it was game .... but I ain't got that much time, money, and desk space.

I wanted one of these 29" - https://www.asus.com...onitors/MX299Q/

But ended up getting two of these 27" - https://www.asus.com...onitors/MX279H/

These are very nice monitors. The speakers in them are good (if I ever want to use them), the picture quality and colours are wonderful, the tiny bezel is awesome, they're beautiful to look at.

Only thing missing from these monitors are USB ports, which would be a welcomed addition.

It would also be nice if they moved vertically, too. I have them on stands (16 port D-Link switches, actually) which put them closer to my eye level.

- Side note -

A giant sexy gaming monster would be nice ...

#89727 Storing 1000TB on a DVD

Posted by Big_T on 03 April 2015 - 12:58 PM

So this researcher, Dr Zongsong Gan, in an Aussie working at Swinburne Uni in Melbourne (which is also in Australia). They've been able to fit 1,000 TB onto a DVD.

In 2013 Dr Gan, in collaboration with Dr Yaoyu Cao and Professor Min Gu from Swinburne and Professor Richard A. Evans from the CSIRO, demonstrated breaking the physical barrier known as the diffraction limit of light and realising optical super-resolution fabrication with a feature size down to 9 nm (nano metres). This ground- breaking work has the potential to revolutionise information industries and provide a new technology platform for big data centres.

The first article I read on this was very poorly written. It would be an offense to share it here. So I found some better sources, including the media release.

Storing that much data on such a small disc, or even handheld device, would be epic.

Not really that the average person needs that much storage, but the ability to shrink data storage sizes while keeping capacity would definitely be good news.

#89529 Game Development

Posted by Big_T on 30 March 2015 - 10:09 AM

I haven't spent much time developing games, my interests lie more with non-game software development, and network engineering.

I've never used Unity, but have dabbled with Unreal Engine at uni. Unfortunately that meant using Visual Studio (yuk) to compile, but sometimes we gotta compromise =P (jk VS isn't really that bad).

I liked the programming side of Unreal Engine, and learning C++ was fun, especially coming from writing Java.

Apparently Unity uses either C#, Boo, or a version of JavaScript. Maybe one day I'll test it out and have a look at learning C# too =)

I just like getting drunk on booze.

Knowledge is good stuff, of course.

It's nice to take a break every so often, providing that priorities etc are sorted.

#85845 Feminist Hacker Barbie is Hysterical

Posted by Big_T on 23 January 2015 - 09:44 AM

I need help with a snappy come back  to one of my friends chauvinistic husbands reply to a facebook post. I posted a thing that said

I am Female  Fe=Iron Male=Man Therefore I am Iron Man. It was a funny joke. This is his reply.

Alright Brooke I hope you are ready for the throw down rebuttal.

When I think of ironman I think....pussy!!! He is basically a glorified inspector gadget in a cool looking suit. When I think MAN I think.....wait for it.... SUPERMAN. What makes superm
an so super? I am glad you asked. He's just badass. Lasers coming out of his eyes, time travel, flying, super strength....I could go on but I'm tired. What's another name for superman? That's right, the MAN OF STEEL. How do you make steel? That's right, you melt IRON.

To make steel, iron ore is first mined from the ground. It is then smelted in blast furnaces where the impurities are removed and carbon is added. In fact, a very simple definition of steel is "iron alloyed with carbon, usually less than 1%."

So with that being said, The MAN OF STEEL is ironman without all the impurities which make him pure. Pure man. (Drops the mic)

I usually get the best of him but I don't even know what to say to this. I was thinking something along the lines like he admits iron is what makes steel so without iron (fe) his male wouldn't exist. That just isn't that snappy though. Hate to see this nimrod win. Please help.

From what I know, it takes both a female and a male to reproduce humans. So either without the other is pretty useless.

I would rather kill myself than live in a world without females.

You've obviously got yourself an immature, pretentious, keyboard warrior (but aren't they all). I pretty much just block anyone on Facebook that I don't like, and unfollow people I don't care about.

Makes for a pretty boring but non-dramatic Facebook experience. There are better things to do with your day than read shit about shit people.

I recommend ignoring him, because rebutting would just cause more shit, then block him if you want. You'll feel so much better afterwards.

A lot about getting a great job in Aus are the connections you have. While studying I also have 2 jobs. One was advertised in the paper which I applied for in person. The other was also in the paper but I knew one of the managers, who sat in on my interview and was a good help at me getting the job.

The entire educational system is different here than US, but still comparable. You either, finish grade 10 or 11 then start trade school and become a chef, or electrician, boilermaker, bricklayer etc etc - or you finish yr 12 then go to uni and do a degree then get a job, or remain at uni for honours and phD before leaving - or you  finish grade 10/11/12 and join the military. Those are basically your options, if you want to 'succeed'.

I finished grade 12, got some (or half of) trade qualifications, the journalism diploma, a networking diploma, Cisco certification, now I'm at uni for an undergrad degree. Pretty much all because I couldn't decide what I wanted to do.

At least I'm versatile =)

All they see is the resume, which, if they ever even look at it, will spend an average of six seconds looking at

Same here.
