I'm starting a cloud website accelerator

01 June 2014 - 03:37 PM

So, seeing how CloudFlare is run and is often critisized, along with it's high "premium account" prices, I thought I'd may try starting a non-profit, approval-only "cloud accelerator" where websites can apply for free or low-cost cloud website acceleration and DDoS protection. Because of the high cost of DDoS protection and server equipment, only certain sites will be accepted in the network, which a low-cost public solution may be later coming, though.

I was thinking the network would consist of the following locations for servers:

Atlanta, GA, USA (Southeast US)

Chicago, IL, USA (Midwest US)

Kansas City, MO, USA (Midwest US)

Dallas, TX, USA (Southwest US)

New York, NY, USA (East Coast US - COMING SOON)

Denver, CO, USA (Western US - COMING SOON)

London, UK, EU (Europe - COMING SOON)

Now note that all locations will not be available at first but be introduced later (see the tag by the location).

Anyone use it?

I don't use it directly, but my dedicated server runs Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, which I recently upgraded from 13.10. I like it so far.

Hi, I'm Alex and I am an 18 year old gamer/otaku/technician from Indiana, currently looking for my first job. I love sci-fi, futuristic and alien-related animes and games, such as the game I want to play, Mass Effect. I also play Team Fortress 2 and Minecraft regularly with the gaming clan and anime club I am in. Speaking of which, I am also a technician for an anime club and gaming clan, as I run their Team Fortress 2 server and website, the Minecraft server is managed by someone else. We're also planning an anime convention next year. I am pretty social but I suck at describing myself, so if you want to know more, feel free to ask!

Thanks for reading.
