I feel like a sleezy car salesmen but here goes:

I started a blog that facilitates the creation of more female characters in male dominated genres such as action, horror, sci fi etc. I am looking for writers to create stories that have female characters in main roles in aforementioned genres with little to no romantic story lines. Basically I'm trying to prove that the girls can play just as well as the boys without worrying that they're going to break a nail or look like a fool in front of Mr. Right. I also ask for comics, memes and reviews.
Please, please, please check it out and even if you don't submit anything, do me the favor of telling your friends.

http://mightydamsels.wordpress.com/

Any suggestions on how I can improve my blog would be helpful as well (please, no comments telling me to get back in the kitchen....)

Hey, before I offer any sort of service, I'm inclined to ask; do you associate this work with a feminist movement?

Not specifically. "Feminism" isn't a dirty word, like most people think. I am a feminist but I also don't hate men or think women should be above them. I want equality in entertainment, people creating characters with non specific gender roles.

Would you not contribute if I said I was a man hating, non-leg-shaving, bra burning, lesbian?

No, I am a writer by profession, but I object to feminism because of its popular connotations, and because of the feminists I know and how they act and treat men. I'm not fond of the fight fire with fire approach that many of them take. That doesn't mean I refuse to advocate women's rights and gender equality, I'm a very moderate person and I do think that to push forward into an era of modern society we should embrace all people, regardless of race, gender or ethnicity.

My point is, I object to feminism but I also receive my income by writing, and I don't want to associate my writing with it, thirdly, I rely on writing to generate income, and I am supposing this would be a good-of-my-heart free-be.

With this being said, I do wish you the best of luck with this venture. I hope you set out to succeed in any personal objectives you've set yourself.

I'm sorry that your view on feminism is tainted by a few extremists. This seems to be the case for many people unfortunately.
Thanks for the well wishes!

That's the thing, you say it's a few extremists, but then I don't actually know any moderates. Haha, well I certainly hope I'm just unlucky.

As before, good luck! I do hope you hang about the forums nevertheless, it's a great community! =)

This ^

i dont think i have ever met a woman who would label themselves a feminist that wasnt a cold blooded harpy that seemed to believe all men's genitalia belonged on a sharp stick over a hot flame.

No offense intended as you dont appear to be that way, just saying a "moderate" feminist is something i have never previously encountered

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-- Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me-- and there was no one left to speak for me.

I really feel bad for you guys! I think that it's unfortunate that the views of some reflect the many. I believe that there are more feminists out there than people realize, its just that most people are afraid to use that label. And I say people because men can be feminists too. It's very similar to religion. Extremists paint a bad picture for anyone who says they are religious, with most people thinking that just because someone goes to church means they must hate gay marriage or women etc.
I think that if more people that aren't crazy (haha, no offense meant) called themselves feminists then it wouldn't be such a bad word.

And guys, I am living proof (as well as all my friends) that sane, men liking, non-bra burning, leg shaving feminists exist.

A feminist is an advocate or supporter of the rights and equality of women. And that's what the term means. Misandry is the hatred or dislike of men or boys. So what you guys encountered were more like misandrists than feminists.

I am 100% for more strong females in the Geek/Nerd Genres! ...and also ones that are fully dressed. Coming from a female that has been in my fair share of scraps, I can tell ya, dental floss doesn't protect a darn thing.

Also, I am a feminist. I can hear the groans already, but like the lady says, there are extremists to everything. I am a feminist who believes in a completely equal playing field for both sexes. I had a friend tell me once that if women wanted to take on all the responsibilities of a man, then they could take on the bad stuff too. I told him to bring it. No person should ever use their gender as an excuse to do/not be able to do anything.

But, there's my two cents.

I approve this thread and bump it. I'll let my fiancee know, he's a good writer, he might contribute something. ^-^ Would you mind if it is slanted towards steampunk? Are there an genres you would want more than others? Does the writing style matter?

Yay!!! Genre, I'll take anything that has a bunch of female characters, although I encourage male dominated genres such as horror, sci fi, action etc. Steampunk is awesome too!! And writing style is up to the writer. The only thing I require is the aforementioned rule: must have lots of female characters and a female lead.
Thanks for the support!!!!!

Steampunk would be quite interesting, it's based entirely on a male patriarchy (Victorian society), so I wonder how you could give women a lead role there. If ever your hubby does write it, you'll have to show us.
