I played it eons ago on a private server and it was fun, but I'm not sure if I want to sub or not until I've played the base content properly.

Ah. From my experience the private servers aren't nearly as good. They're always missing quests and are glitchy. Now is a good time to try the base content again though, the last expansion redid everything up to 60, and there will be a new expansion next month I believe, which should make things a bit more active again.

The starter edition doesn't have any of the expansion content, does it? I was under the impression it was just the base content up to a certain point, with nothing from any of the expansions.

Eh, sorta. Its the full game, up until level 20 (except mail and auction house I think). The last expansion added a bunch of new areas and such that you won't be able to get to, but also redid a bunch of the low level dungeons, quests, and zones, which you will be able to experience with the starter edition.

Ah cool. Hopefully I'll find a race/class I like, too >_> Think I was some form of elf hunter.

Roll horde. >.>
Personally, I play a deathknight (Which start at 55, so you can't get one to start) the most. those, along with hunters, rogues, and paladins are easy classes to play well, and very hard classes to play expertly
Hunters and rogues do the best in low level battlegrounds and dungeons, but you're limited to a dps role.
If you want the easiest class though, arcane mage is the way to go. Just one button to press all the time.

I think I'll probably use some kind of warrior-style character initially. I usually do in RPGs to get a feel for enemies and such, before trying other classes. I used to act as the healer in my old PSO guild runs, but aside from that I'm not very good in a support role.

Ah, well good luck with whichever you choose.
