Tons of people seem to really enjoy it, and as far as I know, it's completely harmless.

I didn't mind it during the short time I played it. I wouldn't let my daughter play, but that's primarily because of the toxicity rampant in almost every online game.

That really is the only problem, and it's not even intrinsic to the game.

Yeah. If there were a more viable way to prevent actual communication with other players I'd be more open to allowing it. But I can't snatch the controller away every time a new player joins in order to mute them before they scream "faggot" or something over the mic.

I like the way that Nintendo regulates that with MK 8 Deluxe. While waiting for a race/battle, you have a bunch of preset phrases/expressions you can use ("Hello!" "Not fair!" "I'm excited!" "Good night!").

 

Not a whole lot of variety or deep conversation, but ain't nobody slinging racism, either.

Well, it's immensely popular, so I guess lots of people would not agree. For me personally, it's just not the type of game I would enjoy, I'm not into any of the battle royal ones, really

Overwatch looks like tons of fun. I don't have any kind of setup that can play any of these things, and I'd be too scared to break into a seasoned playerbase, anyway.
