The problem now is that all the gps trackers I can find use cell towers to transmit the information back, so although they will be able to read where it's at out at see, it won't get transmitted back to us until get gets close to a continent again.

I'm looking for ways to use an Arduino or similar to navigate something through the above course. I believe there is a GPS system for Arduino that could work. I'm also considering a sun dial like structure that matches shadows to an internal clock. I'd like any other suggestions you may have.

This seems like it could be really cool but:
If I understand correctly, the sundial system sounds far too finicky for a trip this far. Why exactly would it be necessary?
Also, just curious, why this course specifically?

Taking rum to Gol.

Like, if the shadow is X length at Y time in Z direction you're at A,B? That's a nifty idea.

So as an alternative to the gps? Sounds interesting.

Originally I thought it might be more reliable, but the more I consider it, the less I believe that to be the truth. As far as the course, that seems to be the most unobstructed path from my location to England.

Koolaid, actually. >.>

Also you could pilot it with specially trained ant sailors? I dunno I know nothing about robotics.

Actually, how hard is it to access that side of the island, should I be able to bump into a beach there? I'm still doing the math on what I can get away with using around 30w a day. Landing it across the Atlantic was my original goal, but I wouldn't mind going full on Opportunity with it and let it run until everything stops.

What you gotta remember is that nigh on everything about the sea around Britain is dictate by the ever-shifting Atlantic currents. The Gulf Stream, the North Atlantic Current and the North Sea Current if you manage to make it through the channel or around Scotland. Beaches comprise most of the British shoreline and what portions aren't beach are steep cliff faces and scraggy outcrops. Sometimes a transition can be made between beach and cliff in a matter of metres.
Also a crate sounds good...I've taken to putting vodka in my koolaid atm, yum. >w>

Yeah, I might just let it follow currents until the end of it's life then. Gulf stream up and around, then back down africa's coast and so on.

You know what would be amazing is to attach cameras to it and hook it up to some sort of live streaming programme. X3

Jaz told me the same thing. I don't have the resources to have an uplink across the atlantic, or supply the power that would need. Best I can do is use a SPOT to make a GPS map of where it's at.
