I mean, I started this a few hours ago. I'm on the third cell and nothing has exploded yet.

Lithium batteries aren't nearly as dangerous as people say they are as long as you don't abuse them or they're already seriously defective.

 

Dont stab them or hold them over a lit match or over charge them for a few hours without a controller and you'll be fine.

The problem is I'm not sure if the cells are bad, or if the controller is good. 

Generally speaking I only worry about shorting out banks of them. They are fun to shoot though.
